No matter your political persuasion, you've got to admit, potentially having a motorcyclist in the White House is interesting.
Leading Democratic front-runner John Kerry is a lifelong motorcyclist, began riding in his teens and currently rides a Harley.
Kerry isn't some trailer queen cruiser poser, though, his previous mounts have included a BMW and a Ducati 900SS. Kerry sold the Ducati and bought the Harley because the aggressive riding position gave him back pain, he's said. In years past, he had been spotted riding sport bikes with friends in Massachusetts.
If he is successful in his presidential bid, Kerry may be be the first motorcyclist in the White House, but he won't be the first resident to have ridden. Dwight Eisenhower, according to a 1950's Cycle magazine report, rode a motorcycle occasionally in WWII, pre-JFK Jackie Kennedy rode pillion on an Ariel when she worked in Washington as a photographer, while former VP Al Gore rode Hondas as a teen.

3. I think that Kerry should have an ad with him on a motorcycle |

The Dems have got to win back some of the white male macho voters.
So bring on the photos of Kerry throwing a football. Bring on the photos of Kerry on the ice.

7. There were pictures . . . |
|
Moving pictures, in fact, on Leno.
It was horrifying. The word 'macho' didn't really come to mind.

4. Well, I hope he wears a helmet when he rides. |
|
No, I won't make any jokes about his hair. Does he wear a stunning black leather bomber jacket and those cool Harley boots, too?
I guess Kerry is part of that baby boomer crowd of aging white males who like to tear down the highway on their motorcycles. It's amazing how many older guys are riding bikes these days. Do you suppose they think it makes them look virile?

Except, I've only ridden Triumphs!
At risk of tangentalizing... older guys on bikes "these days"? Where have you been, my brother? When I was growing up in the sixties, the harley riders were already in their 40's and 50's as the first wave of bikers coming out of post WWII alienation... They'd been riding for twenty years years or more..

a great way to see the country. I've been riding since I was a little kid (35 years). John Kerry is also a pilot. I think there is alot to be said about John Kerry, he is not just a politician he is a real human being that has always tried to achieve things in his life.
As a pilot that also rides, I'm proud to support John Kerry for President!
Kerry 2004.
