What about Jack Reed '08?
Not for president, but for Vice President?

Jack Reed (D-RI)

Reed was born in 1949 in Providence, Rhode Island and has lived in Rhode Island his entire life. Reed graduated from La Salle Academy in Providence, and attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1971. Following his graduation and receiving an active duty commission, Reed attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, where he received a Masters of Public Policy. Reed also served in the 82nd Airborne Division, as an Army Ranger and paratrooper.

3. Reed's my Senator
And though I know full well he's far more thoughtful than many. I heard him respond to a question about electronic voting in '04 at an event I attended and said that "Diebold has been put on watch. I trust them to do the right thing." I wanted to puke. How naive is that?

In other words. . .he was clueless.

His office also responded to one of my plentiful pleas about the hazards of EVM's by sending me a 4 page congressional document on E-voting. . .as in online voting through snail mail. 'Scuse me. . .?

Don't get me wrong. I supported him in his first run for the Senate. But strongly feel he's got to start listening to other people and needs a totally new staff.

4. Here's my narrow minded take on it
We need at least one and possibly two candidates from the south. Which means Gore, Clark, Ford, or Edwards We must pick off one to two southern statres. I think Bill Richardson would most definitely swing NM but that is a low electoral count.

6. i'm disgusted with having to appease the south every election
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 09:48 PM by adriennui
we never win the south's electoral votes anyway, edwards didn't help us in 2004.
let's give them an F- you by choosing our candidates from the northeast and west coast.

jack reed has impressed me in the past, he seems sincere and i wouldn't be at all worried about his graduating from west point.

7. I think he would be a good president.
But, I don't think he can win in today's environment. He's tough, but as other's have mentioned, he often comes off as slightly clueless in press conferences. My understanding of the Senator is quite positive, he would be an excellent candidate for President, but alas, it probably won't happen.

Though, that said, I think Senator Reed would be a good choice for a VP ticket. Especially to balance out a "southerner" for President.

8. I've heard Reed a couple of times on C-Span. Liked him a lot.
Wouldn't piss me off to have qualified people like that in the White House or administration.

He's got a lot to offer. And I like the way he speaks and respects his interviewers' questions.

9. nickshepDEM, one question for you...
I love have to delve into Reed's history. But a bigger question is how long will it take before people here in DU look at you avitar of the DLC, and call you every name in the book?
