Senator expects seven lawmakers to go to

Senator expects seven lawmakers to go to

WAGONER, Okla. U-S Senator Tom Coburn isn't naming names, but he expects six congressmen and a fellow senator will go to jail.

That's because he thinks they'll be facing corruption charges following investigations involving lobbyist Jack Abramoff and others.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Wagoner last night, Coburn said that "if you've been keeping up with things, you've got a pretty good idea" of who the seven lawmakers are.

The Oklahoma Republican says members of both parties have been involved in questionable dealings.

The remarks were made in relation to his attempts to curb "earmarking," which is the practice of inserting appropriations for specific projects into unrelated bills.

1. "members of both parties involved"

I can believe that but can we see a breakdown, Senator?
Is it one Dem and six Repubs?

On edit: note he said Abramoff and others, not just Abramoff. That would be wiggle room to include a Dem dirty with some other lobbyist.

2. I don't believe it
No Democrat took money from Abramoff. Taking money from his clients isn't corruption. Hell, taking money from Abramoff isn't corruption if there's no quid pro quo.

They may use Abramoff to try to slime Democrats, but no Democrat is going to go to prison because of Abramoff.

5. Yes, but I think Coburn is framing it carefully.
Note the article says "Abramoff and others." I'm betting they've scrounged around to find a Democrat for a non-Abramoff 'scandal' so that they can dilute the public perception of a wholly Republican scandal.

7. That's sure what they're trying to do

But when it comes to indictment time, it's all going to be Repugs. That's my prediction, anyway. I haven't heard even rumblings about another scandal that could send a Dem to prison.

We shall see.

8. I so hope that is true.
William Jefferson of LA is the name that comes up most frequently on the Dem side. I wouldn't put it past them to get just enough evidence together for an indictment even if there isn't the same scale of 'questionable' dealings.

4. He said members of both parties are involved in questionable dealings.
He didn't say members of both parties were involved with Abramoff or going to jail.

3. Interesting...
I don't agree with my Senator much on politics but I think he may just be right on this.

It's off topic but the KTEN studios are just a few miles from my house. It is interesting because they get brought up a lot on DU.

9. Is Coburn's head on right, because sometimes he honestly sounds
like he's speaking in tongues.

Don't know what's going to happen with this scandal trail, but it really is beginning to look as if the GOP is going to have a rough morning on Nov. 8th.

I hope on that day the skies are REAL blue.
