I don't understand Spitzer..
Eliot Spitzer is an advocate for strong anti-spam laws. His endorsement to John Kerry is a puzzling one. John Kerry, where was he when Senate Bill 877, the (laughily named) CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 which basically hands out free licenses to spam. Where was he? I went over to Project Vote Smart and looked up the bill and next to his name was (+) which means he didn't vote for the bill but was announced for. It tells me he didn't have the guts to show up.

1. Explanation
Perhaps it was because the bill passed unanimously anyways and Kerry knew his vote wasn't needed. Instead he was busy running for President. I don't doubt his support of the bill

2. yeah that sounds right
If the other guys who are considered "top candiates" were senators I bet they would have missed it too, that is Dean and Clark, on the other hand I bet Dennis K would have made it, he tries to make every vote.

3. Eliot Spitzer is the ultimate player. But he is a good guy.
I read an interesting feature on him in The New Yorker. Eliot really nailed Wall Street to the wall (no pun intended), but he capitulated and made some deals that seemed odd, also.

Eliot wants a big feather in his cap. If he has to pluck it from Kerry's butt to become Attorney General, I'm not surprised. It's all about quid pro quo.

Basically, he's one of the good guys. That's why, when I learned of his endorsement, I thought I might :puke:

5. Somehow I think spam ranks low on his totem pole
Spitzer is the ULTIMATE in corporate prosecution, with his jurisdiction being WALL STREET.

6. Here are his words. His word is good enough for me

"With his long record of standing up for all Americans against special interests, John Kerry is the best candidate for President,” said Attorney General Spitzer. “He and I have fought together against the violation of clean air laws and to resolve the mutual fund scandal and other corporate wrongdoings. I know that he will help small investors and consumers. John Kerry has a real plan to end the era of special interests and I am convinced he is the man to take back the White House from President Bush and his corporate allies.”

10. To reply to the parent, As a New Yorker
I can explain Elliot Spitzer in 2 words: honest government. What a concept. If any D wins I would be surprised if Spitzer were not chosen as AG. Everybody on both sides of the aisle already know that this guy has the goods.

11. You guys are really reaching
Looking up spam votes to counter a Spitzer endorsement? Eh?

See my post above. I'm not sure Spitzer is the kind of guy you want to be attacking.

14. Typical politician
From what I understand, he started out great guns battling corporate crime, but fizzled out when it mattered.

16. Maybe
the goal of going after corruption is more to further his own political career than cleaning up corruption.
