3. Yup! Which is why people from Illinois have been saying
'if you're hearing things, it's not coming from Fitzie's office'. He indicted and up to the time of the indictment there were absolutely, positively, without a doubt NO leaks.

2. Former Ill. Governor Ryan Found Guilty(link)
Edited on Mon Apr-17-06 12:32 PM by cal04
Former Gov. George Ryan, who drew international praise when he commuted the sentences of everyone on Illinois' death row, was convicted of racketeering and fraud Monday in a corruption scandal that ended his political career.

U.S. District Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer summoned attorneys to her courtroom late Monday morning for the verdict to be read. The jury's decision ends the state's biggest political corruption trial in decades, and draws a conclusion on the long career of a politician who gained international fame as a death penalty critic but left office in 2003 amid a widespread corruption scandal.

The charges stemmed from an eight-year investigation of corruption, starting at the drivers licensing bureau and eventually reaching the governor's office. Ryan, 72, was indicted about a year after he left office. He was charged with racketeering conspiracy, mail fraud, obstructing the Internal Revenue Service, tax fraud and lying to the FBI, much of it from his time as secretary of state in the 1990s.

7. no...
Jeri wasn't married to the 72-year-old former governor.

She was married to Jack Ryan, who RAN for governor in '04. NOT the same guy.

8. He ran for US Senate, not Governor. . .

9. sorry, that didn't seem right.
The Governorship wasn't up in 2004. It is in 2006. I should have known that, as it'll be (as of now, assuming Blagojevich doesn't get slammed by one of these corruption scandals/investigations) Blagojevich vs. Topinka.
