I did! Here in Georgia, you now can get a tax break for hiring "Certified Minority SubContractors!!!!"

Let me repeat that,

What does it take to become a Certified Minority in the State of Georgia? :banghead::mad:

My Turbo Tax program even gave me a phone number to call "The Commissioner of Department of Administration Services" who maintains a list of Certified Minority Contractors at [phone]

1. this is a favorite construction / contractor scam

set up a company with a minority as the owner.
find a willing minority to own whatever the minimum requirements is, and pay him a fee.
maybe he works, maybe he doesn't.

the contractor hires the "minority owned subcontractor" which in turn contracts the work back to the main contractor, or to a non-minority owned subcontractor.

you get the tax break minus the share for the one minority owner.

of course, this is fraud, and the only reason i know about this is because people do get caught doing it. but i'd bet it happens a lot more completely undetected.
