For what Bush and the Repubs have done to our nation. Not just giving away our surplus to the wealthy but the disgrace they have brought to our country in the eyes of the world. No, we haven't forgotten that the WTC and the Pentagon were attacked. The disaster was much worse in numbers dead than the proportional threat. But, Bush and the Repubs saw the attack as equal or worse than Pearl Harbor and the attack before WWII.
Now, we may be on the edge of a nuclear showdown. It didn't have to be. But, the manner in which Bush and the Repubs handled this attack upon our nation is a disaster within itself. At first, we had the whole world on our side. We could have captured the leaders of al Qaeda and have won the "war on terrorism". But ignorance, incompetence, and stupidity have brought our country down into the depths of despair and division. They cannot be forgiven.

But, I am convinced that they don't care. I am convinced - seriously - that we're on the brink, and that our extinction is close.
I mean it.
It is so bad, I wonder if most people realize how bad it is. We're in mortal danger. I wonder if people understand that.

Yours is a keyboard of reason on DU; if you say these things, it's chilling to me.
Of course I agree with you and I just do not understand why it's so hard to convince other Americans of our peril.
It's like we're just sitting ducks, waiting.

14. Maybe this is the zen ultimate surrender |
|
If we're assured and reassured and finally completely convinced of our powerlessness in the face of something so great and evil and insurmountable, perhaps we've all just reached that blessed state of surrender and will go quietly.
Me, I'm going for drugs. They never fail.

We're at the abyss.
Make it or break it time.
I still have hope that we will be among those that 'make' it, whatever that may be.

It's getting to feel kind of like that -- like something really awful might be about to happen; that if so, we will all be well and truly screwed; and there's not a damn thing we can do about it. Scared the bejeebers out of me then and I'm getting the same kind of creeped out now.
Back yard bomb shelters, anybody? Duck and cover?

24. Yes, I have been having the same feeling. |
|
And yet everyone goes around like nothing is happening. I guess it is denial.
For me, it has been building of course, but the retired generals coming out was very ominous indeed. And the Iran situation is made up of two insane leaders, it does not look good.
I keep thinking of the Cuban Missile Crisis, it has the same feel for me, only more serious! At least JFK did care about the American people, he agonized over all of it.
Leftie what is feeling the worst right now, what is it you see happening that is scaring you the most?

2. And how can WE be forgiven for letting it happen? |

Any other country, an election gets so blatantly stolen, there's blood in the gutters.
But us? We just sat there and TOOK it.
And yes, I include myself in the "us." I'm as much to blame as everyone else who did nothing.

Don't beat yourself - or me, or any of us - up over this, Redstone.
We have elected representatives. It's their job to stand up to these mofos, and they laid down.
Every fucking one of them laid down, and did nothing, and that's where the blame lies.
We did what we could. We never stopped screaming.
They never started.

in the future. As well it should.
It will be important to remember that the BushCo con artists were more clever than any of us even realized, what we know now I believe will only be the tip of the iceberg. Many more horrible things will come to light.
But the American people will have to take some of the fault. Perhaps this will result in the maturation of the American electorate. We can only hope.
It will be a very important discussion in years to come.

7. If we don't manage to throw them into prison |
|
they will just keep coming back in future administrations. The present gang started under Nixon, polished their chops under Reagan, and they're back again to poison this country some more.
If we don't jail every last man jack in this White House, and I mean all of them, every enabling little bastard that has kept this crew's dirt secret, they will come back again and again.
That is the lesson we need to learn from the Nixon pardon. Just having them go away is never enough. It's only temporary.

Just having them go away, or into "purported" retirement, or out to the "mashed potato circuit" as Reagan used to refer to it, is NOT enough. Because unfortunately, they keep finding ways back in. Like one big never-ending termite infestation.

Who would have believed that Fuckface, eschewing his father's experience, went all the way back to Nixon-era guys - Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al. - in order to carry out the bullshit that Wolfowitz and company began planning back in the early 1980s. The subjugation of the oil-producing countries of the Middle East, and, after that, world domination.
I wonder how they reconcile the reality that China owns us?

20. These guys are only doing what we've asked them to. |
|
As long as we want the oil, they'll go get it. As long as we'd rather watch "American Idol," they'll keep working in the dark while nobody's watching. As long as we scream, "Not my child, you don't!" they'll keep it all-volunteer so they can control it. As long as we present a lazy, licentious and self-indulgent front to the world, they'll make permanent war on those who are offended.
Wouldn't life be sweet if we could always have it both ways? Maybe not; maybe the coming cataclysm will give us the spiritual growth we've been hankerin' for.

I hear about 9/11 I am going to lose my cookies! OK, it was a horrible day. No-one disputes that and many innocent people died and the 'we shall never forget' mantra is old. I lost friends in the Viet Nam war...and the best way to honor their memories is to get over it - live life the way it was meant to be lived and that's to it's fullest. My father is a resident in the DC soldier's home (or what's left of it thanks to the bush f**ing idiot) and he has now given up his own medical care and why.....becuase seeing all the boys there who are maimed brings back horrible WWII memories....
Again, my deepest condolences to all who lost loved ones in the WTC and Pentagon, but do you honestly think they would want you moping around crying and whining about the loss? I don't think so. When Bush and his buds start in, that's when all who lost someone should stand up and just say ENOUGH ASSHOLE! Get over it. I have a friend who perished in WT7 and his family has spent a LOT of time volunteering in the gulf....why? Because they feel it is the way that Gregg would have wanted it. Donations are made in his memory. Work is done in his memory.
We should move on and honor our loved ones by honoring their memories by doing something USEFUL.....not going out and bombing innocent folks and oh by the way Georgie, where's bin Laden? Revolt? Yeah. I'd LOVE to see some 60 style marches again - lived in Madison WI at the time and loved to go up State St and do candlelight vigils on the square.
Bush sucks. His entire group sucks....and I am beginning to think they suck each other for sustanence.
Karma indeed - my wise mother always said, that what goes around comes around.

Not that I think there will ever truly be accountability or justice -- but if there were, I could forgive (but not forget). If we had investigations, indictments, trials, convictions and prison sentences and civil fines, we'd have justice and accountability.
