POLLSTER: HILLARY GREATER THAN "50-50 CHANCE" OF BECOMING PRESIDENT
CLINTON POLLSTER SAYS HILLARY HAS MORE THAN A "50-50 CHANCE" OF BECOMING PRESIDENT. In an appearance that's sure to get the wheels of will-she-or-won't-she-in-2008 speculation spinning, Clinton pollster Doug Schoen told a panel discussion last night that Hillary "undeniably" has "a 50-50 chance, at least" of becoming president, according to an account posted at the Daily Politics.

At the panel -- sponsored by New York magazine -- Schoen also threw a big chunk of meat to those who want a more confrontational Democratic Party. Schoen, whose firm works for Hillary, said he thinks that the "moderate" wing of the party is losing the struggle -- though that wouldn't stop Hillary from becoming the nominee. Indeed, as the Daily Politics noted, he was surprisingly forthright about her centrist positioning:

"She undeniably is a 50-50 chance, at least," to be elected president, said. "Senator Clinton...has the luxury of being able to position erself toward the center as time goes forward... opening and opportunity on the left wing of the party."
But while he said that his and Clinton's moderate wing of the party is "losing the struggle" in the long run, he didn't seem to think Clinton should be too worried about a primary challenge..."You need $50 million to run in the Democratic primary," he said. "That's going to be tough for anyone other than Senator Clinton to do." ...

Democrats will need "a clear alternative view that says Bush has failed" and clear alternatives on the issues of Iraq, Al Qaeda, and Iran.

20. AMEN! I agree with your sentiments exactly!
She is my Senator now and I wish I had never voted for her.

And just think, I used to support her and Bill to the nth degree until I finally realized that they are both DINOs.

"Hey, Hillary! I CAN'T STAND YA!"

7. Am I reading that right?
We're supposed to take the word of a Clinton pollster that she's doing well? Could I have someone alittle more impartial please?

Or is the pollster talking about someone else's data?

Kerry has a large amount of money already and has easily raised money for others and that Bayh has quite a bity of money. Warner can self finance. (Wasn't Edwards worth $20-$30 million)

Also, in 2004 - Kerry had far less money than Dean. (I think he and Edwards were close ) Also, dean raised $40 million on the internet in 2004 in a fairly short time - if Feingold or Clark become the netroots candidates couldn't they get similar amounts.

8. O.K....so he is saying only Hillary has enough $$$ to run in the primary.
I guess the Democratic Party should just cancel all the primaries now to save time and energy?

14. NO Woman has any chance of becoming pres for at least 30 years
Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 08:03 PM by lastknowngood
Look around how many repubs do you think would vote for her? How many misogynistic Dem men would vote for her? How many ,especially older, dem women would vote for her. I don't think she could carry a single state. America is still a misogynistic and racist country and at least half of the voters carry that baggage. Look I think the right woman could do the job fine, but trust me I am not the majority of Americans.

17. Too much baggage
Even if we are to believe HER pollster. She won't get the nod, in the end. I really think Edwards has a good chance. Any takers on that?
