What happens to the Dean campaign ? |
|
First off i am not going to imply that he is going to drop out I think he is going to stay to the convention at least.OK so here i go I dont like dean yall know that but i have total admiration for his grassroots campain network ok if dean doesnt get the ticket or if he does get it what happens to that grassroots network after words? I think another progressive network (even though i think deans a centrist)could shoot off from it.DK fans ditto for us.You thoughts

1. It won't go to the convention |
|
Dean already said that if he gets "blown out" during the primaries he'll drop out, and not take it to the convention.

2. I think these people will continue to be seen. I think they will focus |
|
their efforts on ensuring the Democratic process. I think we will see more protests-better organized. We will see more fighting for what is right. And I think we will see more calls for accountability within the government. These people became active for a reason. It wasn't just a man...it was an idea. They'll see it through.
Go Dean supporters! You have done a beautiful thing for our country!

3. Without Dean, I move straight to the Clark campaign |
|
Or Kucinich, if he's still viable.
Thanks for the kind thoughts about Dean supporters.

13. I hope so, and set up a Yahoo Group for this purpose |
|
I am hoping to pull in HD, DK and any other progressives to try and work on change in the party, which is tightly wedded to the centrist DLC message.
North Dakota has a strong populist tradition, and I think its time we started acting like Democrats again to break the stranglehold on the state capital, where the GOPers hold a supermajority on the legislature.

15. MoveOn is home base for the core supporters of both Camps |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 12:06 PM by rucky
1st & 2nd place in the MoveOn poll.
Plus, MoveOn already has the infrastructure, the message and BIG $$$. It's an easy & obvious place for the grassroots movements to continue from.
Also, i wouldn't count out the Clark supporters in this pact. The draft movement is what got him his initial base of support.
If there were just one grassroots-style candidate running, that guy would be smoking the insiders. What's splitting us is the attachment of the movement to a person - rather than any ideological differences. An issue-oriented group (like MoveOn) solves that problem. It has the potential to be multiple times more powerful than getting behind any one guy - even one as awesome as DK.

much more than I have in the past. I'll be working for candidates to US Rep and local seats. I'll continue to communicate with other grass roots activists IN MY AREA.

|
candidate Dean will drop out. He does not want to destroy the party or see Bush win again. There will be no convention battle or split to a 3rd party. I support Dean, but my support ends when any of that happens. I am a Democrat before I am a Dean supporter.

12. I think "the movement" preceded Dean |
|
It mainly grew out of the anti-war and anti-globalization movements, in my opinion.
I think Dean's opposition to the invasion of Iraq drew some people from the anti-war movement (myself included). His campaign then went on to expand on that and brought in other activists and people who haven't participated much in politics.
I don't know about other people, but I'm sticking with "the movement" with or without a Dean campaign. I plan to continue doing work with the grassroots peace group I volunteer for and to continue developing and partcipating in other community groups that seek to provide alternative outlets for people to get together outside the existing party structures, media conglomerates, and overall corporatist headlock on contemporary society.
Personally, I'll vote Democratic, but I'm leaving the Party and will become an Independent small "d" democrat.

If we end up with Kerry I am done with the Democrats forever.
If there is any buisness as usual candidate in the race its Kerry. I came into this race strong because of the oportunity to transform this party back into one that means something again. Aparently the Democratic party refuses to move. If that proves to be true its time to seriously work for a third party.
After bush is hopefully ousted of course but my hopes arent high for that scenario if kerry becomes the niominee. I would take edwards or clark in a heartbeat over kerry, but my heart still lies with Dean.

When I hold my nose and vote for Kerry, I'll actively seek out independents of a centrist variety who are sick and fucking tired of the extremist elements of both the left AND right who shout down anyone who says something that makes them uncomfortable, and keep us from moving forward.
