This is an idea that jumped into my demented noggin this morning ......
There are essentially two kinds of gas stations in this country. There are the ever-fewer independent retailers who are as much at the mercy of the oil companies as we are. And there are company-owned stations.
I'd bet that a lot of those independent retailers are on our side.
What a great place to campaign.
"If you have to pay high gas prices, at least pay them at a station owned and operated by your neighbor"
"Sick of high gas prices? So is this independent dealer. Support <namehere> - (D) for <nameofofficehere>"
I'm sure there are many varitations to this theme.

Stickers on gas pumps - right next to the price -- saying "Thanks a pantload, George Bush and the oil Republican cronies."

Its not just visiting the mom and pop shops for gas, because they dont make much money on fuel, and the fuel is just being bought from the big-boys anyhow. You need to support their mini-marts....thats where the profit is

3. I only go to Citgo now |
|
Because I want to support an outfit that (1) defied Bush and (2) helped (or tried to help) the underprivileged in the US with their heating oil costs this winter

But they're in the city. We're in the 'burbs.
I go to a locally owned independent Sunoco .... or Costco when I go there.

but my Sunoco owner-operator is a Dem like us. If we have to buy gas, it is always red (except maybe Citgo), so at least I'm giving business to a little guy like me who fights not only Sunoco, but also the company owned stores thast always undercut his prices. He makes it solely because he's a blue guy in a blue state and the neighbors support him.
