CNN HN Poll: Time to back the front-runner?
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 01:37 PM by NRK
I think the Democratic candidates should:

a) Stick it out until the last primary

b) Start dropping out to support a front-runner

Currently 30 votes for a), 70 votes for b).
Go vote!

Poll is on the left-hand side of the page.

1. OMG! After two primaries!!!
Screw them!! Everyone should have the right to vote on the nominee! This is ridiculous. Next time anyone has the nerve to bring up that the GOP is alwasy united behind their candidate, and why are Democrats fighting like this: .. then I'll bring up one point: John McCain in South Carolina. Don't let the republicans and the media tell you who to support and when to give up on your candidate. This is ludicrous! They are trying to squelch our voting process. They want Kerry.. bad!

2. I can't believe this.
This is so anti-democratic that it defies belief.

10. The "back-the-frontrunner-because-Kerry's-winning" movement
reminds me too much of 2000...no recounts because Bush is leading.

20. is the same argument that
others were using for Dean and Clark three weeks ago.

I personally believe that Kerry will be the nominee. i do not believe that anyone should stop supporting their candidate until the candidate drops out. I do believe that there are some candidates that, if they do not come in in the top 3 spots in ANY of the contests today, should drop out of the race.

That way, instead of continuing to split the vote, we can narrow the field and choose the best candidate of those remaining.

23. But if the field is narrowed,
how can we be sure everybody gets to vote for the best candidate?

24. I for one never used that argument, and since only two states
have voted, I find it very corrupt.

It is anti-democratic and unacceptable at this point. If someone wants to raise the matter again after today's primary, fine. But the fact that the DLC chair is actually making such noises at this point is very disgusting indeed.

26. Was it a good argument back then? It sure isn't a good one now.
Candidates need to stay in for as long as they think they are viable.

25. What?!?!
"This is so anti-democratic that it defies belief."

If people are polled...then clearly it is not anti-democratic.

"it defies belief"
-That seems a bit hyperbolic

4. Exactly
If the GOP didn't fear Dean as they said why so much attacks on him. The GOP would have said nothing if they REALLY didn't fear Dean.

Easy victory right? No Dean is a fiscal conservative that can attract Republicans tired of Bush's spending spree (McCain said "Bush is spending like a drunken sailor). Kerry will not get Republican votes. Dean can get Republican votes.

5. Everyone does realize
that polls like this are utterly meaningless.

Besides, if/when candidates start dropping out. It doesn't mean support would go to the frontrunner anyway (quite frankly support would split several different ways).

I really don't see any reason pressure should be put on any of the candidates to drop out. Gephardt knew when it was time to stop. Lieberman will know. And so forth.

6. Here's the CNN poll I would like to see
"Should corporations, media whores, and fascists stay the fuck out of the political system?"

Sad thing is, the sheeple are so brainwashed they would probably vote the way they were commanded on that one too

8. It's along the left side
Incidently, I think I've voted twice now. There doesn't seem to be anything stopping people from voting multiple times.

Yep, now 3 times.

Woohoo. I now control the fate of all.

9. Stick it out!
We need this debate that's taking place--it's good for the party and the country. We need to keep the focus on our side of things as well. And, when the nominee is chosen, we need iron discipline.

13. As long as we have debates, we are getting our message out!
If we don't vote our choice, the debates will end, the coverage of the primaries will end and we will not get our messages out to the American people. Also, less people will go cast a vote in the primaries and less people will get involved with the process. We need to get more voters in, many for the first time.

Also, the more delegates a candidate has, the more they are able to help decide what is on the Democrat Party Platform and decide who the Vice President will be.

What's the hurry? Once our nominee is selected, then we can all go out and fight to get him elected!

Who wins by rushing? Also, the media is having to expend great amounts of money covering all of these.....it's to their advantage for it to end.
