Explain this to me, please.

According to this poll 82% of Republicans still trust Bush to make right decisions. WTF?

WMDs
Social Security
huge deficits
illegal spying
outing CIA agent
lying about everything

What will it take to convince the Republican voter that Bush is . . . well, BUSH? How can anyone possibly approve of his performance? Where can I get some of what they're smokin'?

1. One possible explanation
is that maybe fewer people are identifying themselves as Republican.

Do you have a link for this? I would be interested in reading about it.

2. Remember...their numbers are shrinking
That it is 82% now, it would go even higher if the numbers continue to shrink. So, while it appears to be high approval, it's a smaller pool.

5. Beware the numbers game
and remember how most people react to most things. The war is a loser issue. the economy is scary. The effect of fear can boomerang easily- and should. They attacked social security. Rx prices have antagonized the seniors. Gas prices. NOLA. Global warming. people FELL mad and the direction is too obvious to deflect, but an awful lot of what we presume has 'changed people's minds" IS deflected and the bedrock ignorance, apathy and prejudices are at least just as strong as the raw desire for change, retribution, etc.

Are we going to make the same mistake as the Repugs(which they didn't believe even if they said it) that the country is "moving left or right" because Bush finally ticked off almost everyone and it couldn't be covered up or shrugged off?

First, Bush has actively driven his numbers down by purposeful actions and miserable leadership and obvious self interest and nutty extremism. Congress and the media have deliberately marched to his drums to their doom. As abused as they are it doesn't mean the public has changed or healed or wised up as much as we would like to believe. the lies and obfuscation are very thick, the Reagan BS deeply ingrained, the Democratic opposition too tepid and muffled.

Cut off from the strong support and the glory and the unity the public has awoken to limbo. The traditional kneejerk Republicanism is still cut off from its dark side revealed and wants to deny this by denying Bush, still denying the reality of their bankrupt social support and ideology, and make someone pay. The emotional clash here is that the GOP fantasy lives but they don't abide losing or losers and think they can drive them out despite their party being a corporate boss party. To crush the fantasy would take the role of at least a fair and investigative media and the death of their Noise Machine. Then they would still be resentful and lost, trusting no one except the next RW messiah.

This will not happen by default, but the gaffes and outrages of their false leaders are certainly doing everything humanly possible to show them the truth even if in an atmosphere of total lies.

6. There are a certain number of people who share an affliction
with Bush which is the inability to admit to making a mistake. These people will support him even if they know he is wrong and they are wrong. We all know a few of them, I'm sure.

10. I like to think that 8% are the people who call in on the Dem line on WJ
and hail Bush. They're not fooling anyone but themselves. :)

9. I think that is perhaps 82% of those who will openly admit to always
voting Republican. Many times as well, the sample is skewed.

11. He decided not to get caught having sex in the White House
(let alone with someone else).

However, the 15 percent of the repukes that don't trust him to do the right thing think that it might help his numbers . . .
