Why are people in ID, NE, WY and UT so damned stupid?
how more than 50% of any population can still approve of a proven liar, thief and idiot is simply unbelievable.

Any DUers from those states care to comment?

4. Last I checked, a pretty good chunk of people in all states were stupid.
But as to why there are a higher percentage in these four states, you got me. I'm guessing that 'there' is as good a place as any...

6. They Aren't Suffering, Not Nearly Enough
Wyoming is booming---they have oilfields. Utah is bewitched by a cult and cannot afford to admit any truth. There aren't that many people left in Nebraska, and those there are military who haven't been to Iraq. Same for Idaho, and there's an awful lot of white supremacy in the air.

10. I don't think the majority of them are stupid. I think a majority are
ignorant at the most, and bigots at the least....primarily because of the lack of diversity.

I'd be curious to know how many people who vote GOP in those states have African American or other minority neighbors.

I bet very few.

Thus, the white supremacy mentality. (and I'm white...so people, don't give me shit about hating white people ;) )

12. to borrow a phrase: "It's not the economy, it's not the war,
it's the RELIGION, stupid!"

Bottom line, as was so eloquently explained in that book WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH KANSAS?, the world is of no consequence if you have a job, your kids are healthy, well fed and "educated", and you can make your mortgage each month. "After that, just keep those faggots and baby killers away from me."

Plus, if all of the above pertains to you, and you don't know any better, then it is easier to convince you that outside influences IE: terrarists 9imagined ones, not ones like bin laden),fags marrying, abortion loving baby killers, etc...are the very things that will tear at the fabric of your comfort zone.

The real question to me is: Why are there so many "undecideds" (you know, the ones that are really making the polls slant against Bush right now because they feel they got duped, but were too stupid see it coming) come election time? Personally, I am tired of them. IT SHOULD'VE BEEN EASY TO SEE WHO WAS THE LESSER OF 2 EVILS.

19. They are the sparsely populated rural states
who take their religion seriously. Not so much the church going kind. The its part of everyday life kind.

Religious radio stations and 700 club type programs have a big influence.

16. Oh, do just let it go....

We're talking about such a tiny bit of the population and much of it so literally off the beaten track that it's cruel to single it out.

The Great Basin is predominantly Mormon, and Mormons are raised to be a defensive minority that defines itself by a 19th century or earlier fantasy world view. So do the white supremacists that have migrated to the northern margins of the Great Basin from California and Seattle/Portland.

About Wyoming and Nebraska...it's a few things coming together. There's the present military thang in both. They're both essentially rural despite larger aggregations, i.e. there's no significant urban society. They were both partially settled and their white societies historically defined by militant anti-Indian racism very early in Settlement- the Platte River route was the principal migration trail to Oregon, Utah, and California, and this trail was the center of Indian raiding and warfare as a result.

18. You left out my state
OH
Not only did the majority supposedly vote for Buxh, we elected Bob Taft to steal our money and direct it into the Republican '04 campaign. We had Ken Blackwell to oversee the election and put e-vote machines in place.

I live in a very Dem area of the state (NE) populated by union members, and I still am amazed at the #s of Bushbots in our ranks. They have gone quiet lately however, and the bumper stickers have all but disappeared.

too late dumbasses.

20. If we keep trashing Republican voters,
why would they ever want to vote for Democrats?

i.e. The more you indulge in this Democrats-are-smart-and-Republicans-are-dumb mentality, the more you alienate Republicans and convince them that the stereotype of the elitist liberal is, indeed, correct.

21. Let's try this again. Nobody thrives on neglect.
While a couple of people have made valid points, the rest is the same baseless stereotyping, that keeps being repeated.

People tend to act when they are angry. The economy of Nebraska has been better than most states, and the polls reflect that.

In the past, farmers have benefited more from Republicans in office than Democrats.

Military personal generally vote straight Republican, as Democrats are known for cutting funding.

Religion isn't a big factor.

Nebraska is at the top of the list for the U.N.'s program of asylum seekers. In fact, Omaha is the home to largest Sudanese population in the country. Through word-of-mouth, many that were originally sent to other states, made their way here, because Nebraskans reached out to them.

Finally, "They are small states and don't matter", is a phrase I often here from Democrats. Don't you think that is insulting? Why would a Republican vote Democrat with that kind of attitude?

22. I live here in ID and have yet to meet anyone who loves *
Maybe I don't get out enough. The problem may not be stupidity, so much as it is being "uninformed." In spurts of leftist political evangelism I'm prone to out here, the response I get from fence-sitting folks is that if they didn't hear it on the MSM, how can it be true, why isn't the media raising hell. They think what they're told to think. There is a certain quality of intellectual laziness that accommodates *'s failure to almost no end.
