According to the Pentagon, 30,000 troops maybe on their way out of Iraq either by the November elections, or by years end. The troop withdrawl is contingent on whether the situation on the ground is stable enough for these troops not to be needed.

Comment; while I'm glad to see that some troops maybe coming home in the future, it is time for all the troops in Iraq to come home.

1. By years' end? You mean, as in time for the midterm elections?
30,000 troops should already BE home because their deployments were over!

2. I predict that
there will be the same amount of bloodshed in Iraq, if not more, at the end of this year as there is right now, both American troops and innocent Iraqi citizens. So what's the reasoning for not bringing them home now sooner instead later? Will the new Iraqi Army and it's police force be standing up and defending themselves by then? I doubt it! Only bringing home 30,000 troops will make it even more dangerous for the remaining American troops left there in the lurch, shorthanded. So to Rumsfield I say: "BRING THEM ALL HOME NOW YOU ARROGANT DUMB SON OF A BITCH" They've done their duty!

4. " ......... will make it even more dangerous for the remaining ...... "
Exactly! This is just another example of their blatant disregard for 'the troops' and their using them as pawns in their Right Wing War on America.

3. My cousin and his wife are being redeployed there in June (for a year)
They did a 1-year deployment in 2004-2005 and they're going back this June.

5. You mean by election years end.
While I am happy to see anyone come home from this war I am highly skeptical of the GOPS motives at this point.

10. Maybe the sick GOP bastards need the troops home so that
they can begin a pre-emptive strike on Iran? Whatever reason that these evil doers have for bringing home our brace men and women isn't for pure alturistic motives.

6. Translation...
They will be brought back in time for the midterm elections - and redeployed (or used for attacking Iran), ASAP after the midterm elections

8. Things are going so well now that the Iraqi Army has taken over
I see no reason to bring 'em all home today.

9. Amazing...first they invade a country without cause and without enough
troops to finish the job and now they are going to REDUCE the number of troops when more are obviously needed?!

Can we please have a candidate that favors more troops in Iraq to get this mess over with in the best possible way?

...and I'm certain that those that get to come home appreciate it.

Not that the move doesn't reek of election year politics.
