Neil Young: Exclusive 'Impeach the President' Lyrics
Wednesday, April 26, 2006
By Roger Friedman

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,193259,00.html

Here, for the first time, the lyrics to Neil Young’s “Let’s Impeach the President”:

Let’s impeach the president for lying

And leading our country into war

Abusing all the power that we gave him

And shipping all our money out the door

He’s the man who hired all the criminals

The White House shadows who hide behind closed doors

And bend the facts to fit with their new stories

Of why we have to send our men to war

Let’s impeach the president for spying

On citizens inside their own homes

Breaking every law in the country

By tapping our computers and telephones

What if Al Quaeda blew up the levees

Would New Orleans have been safer that way

Sheltered by our government’s protection

Or was someone just not home that day?

Let’s impeach the president

For hijacking our religion and using it to get elected

Dividing our country into colors

And still leaving black people neglected

Thank god he’s racking down on steroids

Since he sold his old baseball team

There’s lot of people looking at big trouble

But of course the president is clean

Thank God

More on Thursday morning about this extraordinary and eye opening new recording…

2. apparently he got a good review:
"For now, though, here are the lyrics many parents are going to be hearing their kids singing in the next few days. Young has been clever enough to write the catchiest protest song since Country Joe and the Fish’s anti-Vietnam ditty, “I Feel Like I’m Fixin’ to Die.” "

33. A student caught me singing Pink's newest the other day --
College students are always a little confused when someone middle-aged recognizes the singers they like...

Pink's "Dear Mr. President"
How can you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How can you dream while a mother has no chance to say goodbye?

Lot's more good stuff, but those are the two lines that keep playing over and over in my mind.

:hi:

41. OMG! I'm so excited about this song & album being released!
Between Pink's "Dear Mr. President" and now this song! I too have been singing the song from Pink all day long everyday and I just ordered it off of Amazon.com! It gets delivered tommorrow! For me, in the Pink song, its not just those two lines, its also the line of "What do you see when you look in the mirror? and "How can a father take his own daughters rights away? and How can a father hate his own daughter if she were gay?" and "Want to talk about hard work? How about minimum wage with a baby on the way? How about building a bed out of a cardbox? - You know nothing about hard work!"

:hi:

25. Musicians Have Historically Changed Polices & War-time Opinions
We were the front-runners right during the Viet Nam war. Eastern Europe was very impressed and followed our lead, hence the Beatles and other famous groups. Back in those days, the tee-vee & most newspapers reporters did just that - reported, not o'pioned.

Think of John Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance."

Now one can see why the neo-con's slowly bought all the media.

36. i don't think the neocons bought the media.....
...i think the corporations did.

the neocons are people like horowitz. they're people that were radical lefties in the 60s but developed a view of how things should be in the middle east and latched into the repuke party during the reagan era. they don't own much of the media, but they do have a stranglehold on how we're handling foreign policy, especially regarding the middle east.

Neil Young is unfair.

We need to balance this with a declaration of all the good things Bush has done.

For example, he made the telemarketers stop calling.

Okay...

That's all I can think of.

14. Did you sign-up for the Do Not Call list?
Also, make sure you visit their site and follow the instructions for turning them in and for making sure they know not to call you.

I've only been bothered by two companies:

MCI Worldcom and DirecTV.

Both of those got their heads handed to them by the FCC.

Non-profit organizations. And somehow every freakin' one of them has my telephone number!!!

It's almost worse than people trying to sell me something because they are mostly all for good causes. I don't feel right just hanging up on them or telling them to get lost but I just can't afford to give to them all.

Historically at least. I wonder how many people and or stations will get really f*cked over for even playing Neil Young now? It's not like we live in a Democracy anymore.

We no longer live in a Democracy. And all "Southerners" have not hated Neil Young since Southern Man. The angry apologists may have commandeered all discussion and reaction to Neil Young, but Southerners are not monolithic.

It won't work. They just sound like old Auntie Freeper. Neil Young is popular with a lot of repugs too.

44. I can't handle watching Fox anymore, so I've just seen the Web Site...
...but if you look at Huffington Post and the Michael Moore site today, they are both linking directly to the same article I posted. Interesting that Fox should place themselves at the center of it.

Meanwhile, on "Imus In The Morning" today (MSNBC) Don Imus mockingly read the lyrics, said they were "imbecilic," and his lackey Bernard McGuirk called Young a "burned out old Canuck." Show regular Rob Bartlett, in character as a fake blues singer, and called for his death, among other things. Imus said "You don't mean that" and Bartlett replied "Oh yes I do."

43. Awesome! I love it.
I hope the tune is catchy. I'm so excited about this because I'm one of his greatest fans. I couldn't think of another artist I'd rather hear this kind of song from.

As for him being Canadian.....he's lived in the US for forty years! He's married to an American and his children are Americans.

I heard Fox News talking about how he was "bashing the country that made him rich." ....Isn't it something the way Republicans assert that bashing the president is bashing America? (With that reasoning, they hated American intensely from 1992 to 2000) If Young didn't love this country, he wouldn't give a crap about how Bush has abused it.
