Durbin effortlessly swatted away Cavuto's attempts to somehow blame Jimmy Carter and Democrats for the price of gas, and made it absolutely clear that the oil companies are gouging us and reaping record profits. Cavuto was reduced to mumbling "Well, I'm not apologist for the oil companies, and I think you know that." Durbin: "Oh, I'm not so sure."

to hear about the obscene profits by these oil companies and still buy into what Faux is trying to sell?

According to Cavuto's talking points, the poor oil companies are only making 9 cents a gallon. Suuuure, that's right, they're barely scraping by. It's only because they're so efficient that they're able to turn a profit. /sarcasm.

Durbin kept his cool, even as Cavuto repeatedly interrupted him. He got some good concise points out there. I was impressed by him.

Simply divide the profit by the number of gallons sold and you get how much per gallon the companies are gouging us. My guess it is at least a dollar or more.
