What does everybody think about Wyden's filibuster?
I've been watching for a few hours and the fact that he's got a republican co-sponsor seems like a good thing.

5. To get this Congress to do any thing to not dish out money in
their new welfare state for business would be some thing. Congress is giving a way every thing to business.

7. Here is his news release!
Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 02:22 PM by acmejack
Senator Wyden has gone to the floor to demand that the US Senate vote on ending the practice of giving billions of dollars in royalty relief to big oil. Under last year’s energy bill, oil companies got a great deal – a reduced royalty payment for oil and gas taken from federal lands that costs as much as $35 billion. Wyden’s amendment would stop this ride as long as the price of oil is above $55 per barrel, except where royalty relief is needed to avoid supply disruptions because of hurricanes or other natural disasters.

With oil selling for more than $70 a barrel -- $15 a barrel higher than at the price the President said incentives weren’t needed -- Congress should not continue giving away more taxpayer money for unnecessary subsidies to benefit profitable energy interests. It is time to prohibit further royalty relief and save our citizens hard earned tax dollars for more worthy uses.

Senator Wyden went to the floor at 10:51 am (Eastern time) this morning to call for a guaranteed vote on this amendment. The majority has objected to a vote and he will remain on the floor until he gets it. He is refusing to leave the floor because if he does, he loses the right to take the floor on his amendment again, and more importantly would then leave without any guarantee that his amendment would be voted upon. He is remaining on the floor until he gets an agreement for a vote on his amendment.

10. Wyden has owned the floor for hours now....
fighting for the right of the American taxpayer to be given a effin' break against the Bush clusterfuck with big OIL Co.'s.
So far NO one has stepped up to argue on behalf of Big Oil. But nor will they budge as to take away their windfall of a tax break endorsed by Bush's "base". ..Big Oil.
This is such a disgrace to every taxpayer in this Nation who is struggling to keep their businesses going due to increased costs of transportation of product, and every American family struggling to pay utility costs, and gasoline in their vehicles while whittling away at their meager budgets. "Should we feed ourselves this week or should we drive our vehicles and have electricity in our homes?" Geez how difficult is this question Wyden is asking of the Senate? Seems like a no-brainer to most..
except for the beholden bushbots on the ignorant RIGHT!

Disgraceful mess. Corrupt effin Bush Administration!!
I hope the Dems sing this song with Wyden until there is NO Republican left in the White House, Senate, & Congress.

This is the year we begin to rid the nation of the stranglehold of Big Corporate handouts.
Enough is enough!

God Bless Sen. Wyden...

17. It's over.
Yielding to Reid for a question.

Reid: It's clear there won't be a vote on the amendment and I am dissappointed. The American people will be dissappointed. Other senators who want to talk. How long will you hold the floor?

Wyden: I would stay all night until they had to remove me to save tax payers millions of dollars. Biggest give away to oil companies. What we have seen is that the Senate can't operate as it usually does. I want to protect the middle class. We're going to come back and fight this another day.

Reid: The point has been made. At the end of three minutes can we go to quorum?

Wyden: Sad day for taxpayers. I hope they heard the discussion today. Needlessly spending billions of dollars. I wish we could have done right by them. This is the big one. This is the one with no logical case for. I will be back to fight this again and again. I don't withdraw my amendment and I will yeild the floor.

Looks like it's over folks. Wyden kicked serious republican ass!
