Everybody take a second to THANK SEN WYDEN!!!!
Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 03:10 PM by KyndCulture
Yielding to Reid for a question.

Reid: It's clear there won't be a vote on the amendment and I am dissappointed. The American people will be dissappointed. Other senators who want to talk. How long will you hold the floor?

Wyden: I would stay all night until they had to remove me to save tax payers millions of dollars. Biggest give away to oil companies. What we have seen is that the Senate can't operate as it usually does. I want to protect the middle class. We're going to come back and fight this another day.

Reid: The point has been made. At the end of three minutes can we go to quorum?

Wyden: Sad day for taxpayers. I hope they heard the discussion today. Needlessly spending billions of dollars. I wish we could have done right by them. This is the big one. This is the one with no logical case for. I will be back to fight this again and again. I don't withdraw my amendment and I will yeild the floor.

Looks like it's over folks. Wyden kicked serious republican ass! 5 1/2 hours of a filibuster.

Email, call or whatever but send a message of thanks to him.

3. They're not going to vote on his ammendment.
He was forced to give up the filibuster. Looked like Reid wanted him to save the effort to fight another day. They were in a total stalemate.

6. I thought that too...
It was such a stalemate. They weren't evening making an attempt to follow the rules.

They just wouldn't talk or agree to the vote. Didn't see anybody really defending big oil, they just dug their heels in.

10. I called his office
He did a great thing today and it was no small effort on his part. He kept his head the entire time, highlighting the fact that the Senate Republicans are in bed with big oil! There is no other excuse for it! When Domenici had his little temper tantrum and then stomped out was really the highlight of my day. Thanks Ron! You made me feel good about being an Oregon Dem again! I am sad that it really wasn't paid attention to here on DU. I feel it warranted more attention while it was going on. The more folks who could watch and spread the word and call his office and the offices of others, the better. I realize most folks are at work and cannot watch during the day, but I am a bit disappointed in the lack of coverage of Sen. Wyden's effort! If we don't focus on good things the Dems are doing, why do we think the MSM will?

Ron is a great Senator, and though he has made me mad plenty of times, I have met him and I honestly think that he actually does research and struggles with the decisions he makes! So many of our Congress is now made up of pigfelching (got that word yesterday off DU and love it) figureheads who vote according to party line and are not there to do the will of the people but to achieve a benefit for themselves and their buddies. He travels all over our State twice a year doing Town Hall meetings, and I have been able to meet him twice this way. He is always open to opinions/questions and concerns from the locals, and actually does follow-through with his constituents. I feel well served by Ron Wyden, despite his faults.

12. I don't either
I was getting folks in several chat rooms the URL to stream it and his office phone number, and making calls myself. I thought it was a great "Mr. Smith" episode, but I guess with all that's been happening, it just went under the radar?!? TY for your threads KYND!

That was 5 hours of civics lessons for America!
