Another fun survey, this time a Political Compass
To go along with Old Crusoe's thread on presidential preference. This link has six pages of questions, with options from Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree. Takes a few minutes: http://www.digitalronin.f2s.com/politicalcompass/questionnaire.php

Here are the first three:

"If economic globalisation is inevitable, it should primarily serve humanity rather than the interests of trans-national corporations."

"I'd always support my country, whether it was right or wrong."

"No one chooses his or her country of birth, so it's foolish to be proud of it."

At conclusion you receive two scores and your spot on the political compass. Famous figures in political history and where they supposedly slotted are included for reference purposes.

Me:

Economic Left/Right: -5.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.03

I'll just pretend that's my golf handicap index:)

9. I'm apparently diametrically opposed to all the leaders in the free world

since if you scroll down you'll find, disturbingly enough, that Bush, Blair, Howard, Berlusconi, Chirac, etc are all tightly clustered in that authoritarian right quadrant.

This uses a model very similar to the one with which we operated in my first political science class. It also explains some of the differences I have with a certain relatively narrow segment of this site, since I really don't have much in common at all with authoritarian leftists.

Economic Left/Right: -5.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.46

I would guess that the majority of DU members are similarly situated.

Economic: -1.75

Anybody else find it weird that they don't list any lower right quadrant world leaders?

18. Probably because few such examples are forthcoming.
Just off the top of my head, the late Barry Goldwater would probably have fallen into that quadrant. But contemporary conservatism, especially in the United States, is so bound to enforcing religious precepts and traditional norms that anybody who deviates from that today is likely to be marginalized.

Generally speaking, politicians who have a great deal of power are unlikely to advocate reducing it, which is why so few of them appear anywhere below that horizontal axis.
