Fresno Bishop Opposes Immigration Boycott
http://abclocal.go.com/kfsn/story?section=local&id=4104211

April 21, 2006 - The leader of the Diocese of Fresno says he does not support the idea of a nationwide boycott to protest illegal immigration.

This comes the same week Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony also urged people not to participate in the May 1st boycott, and instead, focus on finding other ways to highlight immigrants' contributions.
Fresno's bishop agrees. He says a boycott could turn people off, instead of convincing them reform is needed.

"I think it would have a reverse effect. If I'm an employer, I'm not going to like it if my people take off from work and I don't think it's going to help them because they're going to be knocked that pay," said Bishop John Steinbock.

U.S. Congressman Jim Costa is also voicing his opposition to the planned boycott. He talked to students at Fresno High School Thursday to discourage them from walking out of class again.

1. I agree...
Recent polls show that the American people suport the Democratic position on immigration reform. This boycott WILL backfire, I can guarantee it. Now is not a good time to go pissing off people when we are winnning.

3. NO-Shows at WORK
I guess that would be a great time. May 2 - everyone that DIDN'T work on May 1 - get their proof of citizenship. No proof. No job. Call the INS. First part of illegal alien is ILLEGAL. Come in LEGALLY; EMPLOY legally. Fair for all.
