Republican arrests/indictments since Dim Son took office?
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 08:58 PM by TWriterD
Rush Limpballs (Conservative commentator)
Tom DeLay (R-TX)
Duke Cunningham (R-CA)
Scooter Libby (VP's Chief of Staff)
Claude Alexander Allen (Domestic policy adviser)
Jack Abramoff (Lobbyist)
David H. Safavian (White House procurement officer)
Tom Noe (Ohio lobbyist)
Frank Figueroa (DHS/Operation Predator)
Brian Doyle (DHS Assistant Press Secretary)
Jenna & Barbara Bush (First Daughters)
Noelle Bush (First Niece)
Jebby Bush (First Nephew)
George P. Bush (another First Nephew, but arrested back in 1994)

Honorable mention for under-investigation Bill Frist (R-TN/Senate Majority Leader) and those MFers at Enron.

Who else is there? I'm in one of those pissing e-mail exchanges with a fundie neighbor and need clear examples of GOP/rightwing corruption. She comes back every time with Bill Clinton's penis (what else?), but it is rather satisfying knowing I'm getting under her skin.

Thank you!

1. That's a pretty good list you've got.
If that doesn't get her attention, you may have to abandon her and her tiny mind . . .

3. Don't forget all the repukes who have been arrested for their
"family values". Some one had a link a few days back of the repukes arrested for sex offenses quite a few against minors. That ought to get her attention cuz it's about sex that's seems to be the main thought in a repukes tiny little brain.

4. This is a list I put together a while ago. I'm sure I forgot some.
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 09:43 PM by Catrina
For example, I forget the names of the two contractors in the Duke Cunningham case. I know only one of them has been indicted so far.

Convicted through guilty pleas:

Republican ~ Adam Kidan ~ Abramoff partner
Republican ~ Scanlon ~ Abramoff partner
Republican ~ Abramoff ~ Top Republican Lobbyist
Republican ~ Duke Cunningham ~ pled guilty to crimes separate from the Abramoff affairs, but now thought to be inplicated in the Abramoff affairs.

Three mafia hitmen: Arrested and charged for the Florida murder of Gus Boulis, business associate of Kidan and Abramoff in the purchase of Suncruz Casinos. The three accused men received large sums of money as business consultants of Abramoff partner, Kidan. Kidan has been a suspect in this case, although no charges have been filed against him, yet.

Also arrested and charged in the Abramoff, Republican scandal:

Republican ~ Safavian ~ White House official currently on trial for lying to the Feds
Republican ~ Rudy, aide to Tom Delay.

Targets of the investigation:

Republican ~ Congressman Bob Ney, and at least one aide.
Repbulican ~ Tom Delay and his wife

Under suspicion and/or investigation:

Republican ~ Griles, assist. to Gale Norton in the Dept. of the Interior
Republican Dept. of the Interior employees, several of whom took the 5th at the Senate hearings.
Republican ~ Sen. Conrad Burns and former aide (both deny any wrongdoing)
Republican ~ Sen. Cornyn (he denies any wrongdoing)
Republican ~ Christian Fundamentalist ~ Ralph Reed
Republican strategist ~ Grover Norquist, (Abramoff's Reed's and Kidan's mentor when they were Young Republicans in their college years).

Republicans who have been convicted, charged, indicted, investigated in crimes other than the Abramoff affairs.

Republican ~ Governor Rowland of Conn. serving time now for corruption
Republican ~ Governor Ryan of Illinois and several Republican members of his administration, received a total of about 30 indictments for corruption in that administration. The prosecutor in that case is Patrick Fitzgerald. Update: Convicted on all counts
Republican ~ Governor Taft of Ohio, convicted and paid a fine.
Republican ~ Tom Noe ~ indicted on over 50 counts recently.
Republican ~ Scooter Libby, top WH official in the Valerie Plame affair, indicted on five counts.
Republican ~ Larry Franklin, Pentagon official, pled guilty to spying for a 'foreign nation' in the Pentagon Spy case.
Republican ~ Rosen, charged with spying for a 'foreign nation' in the Pentagon Spy affair
Republican ~ Weissman, charged with spying for a 'foreign nation' in the Pentagon Spy affair.
Republican ~ Claude Allen ~ Bush appointee director of Domestic affairs for petty theft.
Republican ~ Rush Limbaugh ~ guilty of fraudulently buying prescription drugs
Republican ~ Tom Delay former Majority Leader of the House indicted in Texas.

Currently under investigation:

Republican ~ Karl Rove, under investigation in the Valerie Plame affair.

Republican ~ neocon, Douglas Feith, now under investigation for possibly disseminating false information about WMD and terror connections from the OSP. Possibly as a result of his close association with Larry Franklin who is now cooperating with Prosecutors.

Republican ~ Richard Perle, under investigation by Patrick Fitzgerald in the Conrad Black corruption case in Illinois. Conrad Black, media mogul (Canada's Rupert Murdoch) was recently indicted together with co-conspirators, for corruption by Patrick Fitzgerald.

Republican ~ Sen. Frist for insider trading
Republican ~ Speaker Hastert for questionable dealings with Turkey

5. Perfect - thanks! This needs to be spread far and wide...
I think people (of all stripes) are beyond sick of the corruption. Except for my fundie neighbor, that is -- she blissfully tunes it out.

6. Maybe we should get people to put together a more accurate list
in the Research Forum. I know there will be more indictments and convictions coming from all the Abramoff affairs.

Then there's the whole Coingate mess in Ohio. Only Noe has been indicted so far, I think. But there probably will be others.

The Valerie Plame affairs will probably produce more indictments also.

I know I left some out. I think there was some kind of legal trouble in the governor's office in Maryland, eg.

It's hard to keep up with them all ~

Another interesting story was Condoleeza Rice being called as a witness in the Pentagon Spy trials. Calling her is actually saying that she leaked sensitive information that went to a 'foreign nation'. Her spokesperson said last week that she 'did not leak information'. That case could produce more problems for the neocons ~

If you can think of any I left out, feel free to add them ~ :-)

is available as a resource. Scandals are listed by topic or as part of a Master List (that just about made my head explode - there was so much!).

14. One more to add to the list (that was fast)!
Ex-Head of FDA Under Investigation

"NEW YORK - The former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration is under federal investigation amid accusations of financial improprieties and making false statements to Congress, a newspaper reported Saturday.

The New York Times, citing attorney Barbara Van Gelder, said a grand jury has begun a criminal investigation of Lester Crawford. She declined further comment.

~~snip~~

Crawford resigned in September, two months after the Senate confirmed him, saying it was time for someone else to lead the agency. He had been acting commissioner for more than a year.

A month before he resigned, Crawford sold more than $50,000 in shares in a company regulated by the agency, according to financial disclosure forms obtained by The Associated Press under the Freedom of Information Act. He has since joined a Washington lobbying firm, Policy Directions Inc."

More at:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060429/ap_on_go_ot/ex_fda_chief

I don't know much about this guy (is he the one that said women should pray away symptoms of PMS?!), but he certainly has that R look:

From Planned Parenthood:

"Cause for Concern

Criticisms lodged against Crawford are legion — among them, an ineffective response to last winter's shortage of flu vaccines, a relationship with drug companies that's been referred to as "cozy," and the fact that he is the first nominee for the position since 1981 who is not a physician (he has a doctorate in veterinary medicine and in pharmacology).

But of all the FDA decisions that have been handed down under Crawford's leadership, one stands out as particularly troubling — the denial of over-the-counter status for Plan B emergency contraception (EC), despite support from the FDA's own advisory panels and major professional medical associations."

If I read it now I'll have nightmares! (Not that the past nearly 6 years hasn't been one big one...)
