Is Harry Reid afraid of Jack Carter? You decide and let me know...
I find this behavior despicable on the part of Reid. Having met both of them, Jack Carter lacks Reid's arrogance. And in reality, I have felt since the beginning of 2004 that Reid did what he could to sabotage John Kerry in Nevada. Too many "long time Democrats" and close friends of Reid from my area voted for Bush. And the Dem Party in Nevada sucks for the most part, under Reid's guidance. Gee, I wonder why?

From the Las Vegas Gleaner:

04/24/2006
Harry Reid when he's at home
When Sen. Harry Reid told Senate candidate Jack Carter to hush during a press conference at the Nevada Democratic Convention Saturday, it was not the first time Reid had snubbed Carter. It wasn't even the first time that day.

In case you didn't hear, after LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's keynote speech Saturday, Villaraigosa, Reid, Jack Carter, Rep. Shelley Berkley and a gaggle of reporters wandered into a side room for a little "press conference." There was no podium, no mic-packed lectern, no cameras or klieg lights. It was just some politicians and a few writers standing around in the middle of a room, which is to say it was all pretty informal and laid back. Villaraigosa and Reid were answering questions about universal health care (exactly the type of bold and necessary public policy initiative that Harry Reid is guaranteed to treat like the weather, i.e, he'll talk about it, but he's not going to do anything about it) when Jack Carter began to render an observation. Reid wheeled around and tersely told Carter "OK, Jack, we're doing the press conference, OK?" as if Reid was talking to a child who was interrupting the grown-ups' conversation.

Earlier in the morning, during his own speech to the convention, Reid's reference to Carter amounted to an acknowledgment that Carter was running for Senate. And that's it -- an acknowledgment. Oh, Reid waxed fondly about the great gains Democrats would be making in the Senate this year, and reeled off the Democratic target states -- Pennsylvania, Ohio, Rhode Island, Missouri, Montana, Tennessee, Arizona. But he didn't mention Nevada. And fair enough, because almost nobody has included Nevada in the category of seats that Democrats have a chance of winning.

1. Some might not understand your words...but I do....
I am not aware of the interaction at the press conference but...

I do believe that the Dem party in Nevada is very lacking... I live in Northern Nevada and the party lacks leadership here. As just a simple new to politics kinda of guy, I could do better.

I guess I have to get off my ass (more), and I am....

5. Hey, NVMojo.....
This is what I expected from Harry. You have seen my complaints about him before, if you remember. Ensign will get re-elected, with Harry's help, because Harry wants no competition in the state of Nevada from any other Democrat. I am not surprised he did it, but I am kinda surprised someone actually talked about it.

6. I was surprised it got out too. Reid and Ensign have an unholy alliance
with those papertrail-LESS voting machines in Las Vegas that will still be used in the next election. Just a few extra spins of the software and Ensign will win no matter what. He isn't even all that liked in mining country but Reid likes his buttboy Mormon buddy, Republican or not.

7. As far as I am concerned,
The Democrats can hang it up with Nevada as long as Reid is in charge, IMO. I read the article you referenced and the blog below the article, and that guy Collins is a jerk, and was no doubt hand-picked by Reid. And another thing, Danny Thompson, the AfL-CIO guy in Nevada is another idiot. He lets Harry tell him what to do, instead of the Unions using their power. It's ridiculous.

8. We were never going to defeat Ensign
He's entrenched for several cycles. A Republican with a base in Clark County is very formidable. Oscar Goodman would love to be a flamboyant senator making national news and on all the talk shows, but he passed on the senate run since beating Ensign was very unlikely, even for someone like Goodman with a huge approval number in southern Nevada.

The idea is to pick off some of the statewide seats this year, hopefully beginning at the top with governor.
