that Wes Jr. felt that the Media were unfair to his Dad. They are such a load of crap. If Clark drops out... I'm seriously thinking of not watching any more TV. I've got lots of books I want to read (unlike our president) and Hobbie's I'd love to do and maybe now is the time to start!

"Wesley Clark Jr. a 34-year-old screenwriter, in a meeting with reporters while his father called voters from a phone bank, said; "I'd like to see him win today. If he doesn't win I don't want to see him stay out there.
"It's a really disillusioning experience."
I pretty much agree at this point. If things don't work out tonight, Wes should go home and live a relaxing life with Gert. He's too fucking good for this country, imho.

We still need him and he knows it. You know? He didn't get to be a general by giving up when the chips are down. I hope he doesn't take too big a chunk out of Wes Jr's ass tonight. God I wouldn't want to have that man mad at me.
There's still a LONG LONG way to go..........
I don't want to see him drop out no matter what happens tonight.
Reagan lost the first 5 primaries.
Dean isn't even competing this round.

I'm sure he might have had second thoughts if he knew beforehand how the media operated.
This is dead on:

Failed to report Clark, Jr.'s anger at the media; only mentioned that he was "disillusioned" with the electoral process.
Fair and balanced, you know.
Can't report what the young man actually said. Might draw the ugly curtain on the media so that viewers could really see what was happening.

If Clark doesn't win in Oklahoma, I agree with Clarks's son. He should get out.
I think this campaign shows how difficult it is for an outsider to participate in this system. It was always a long shot campaign, but the press has been so unfair to Clark.

"If Clark doesn't win in Oklahoma, I agree with Clark's son. He should get out." NO! NO! NO! He should keep going and be there to pick up the pieces when the Republican media destroys Kerry or we start having more and more terrorists attacks and the Repubs change the subject back to terrorism and away from the stinking economy. How the heck can an anti-war Viet Nam vet be commander-in-chief over the Bush junta. Our only sure hope is with Clark! Clark/Kerry or Kerry/Clark is the only way for a sure win.

15. I don't agree that Wes should get out! |
|
I haven't had a chance to vote for him yet! Wes came in 3rd in NH, and is set to place that well or better in most of the Feb 3rd states. Absentee ballots may give Wes a big boost in AZ, OK, and NM, and I don't think they will all be counted today. Wes is competitive in VA and TN, and Kerry is just starting to endure the blazing glare of the media. Lieberman is about to drop out, and Wes is the most likely to pick up most of his support--such as it is. Dean's support is dwindling, and Wes is the sole anti-Iraq war proponent other than Dean. The anti-Iraq war message needs to continue to have a superb candidate to vote for.
Any candidate will have to endure a long hard slog to win this nomination, and I have faith in the General. He is our last, best hope for peace. Leaving the race in protest won't help correct the abuses of the media, it will only tell them again that they can do whatever they want and get away with it.
Buck up, Wes Jr.! Your Dad IS the hero you knew he was, when you asked him to get into the race.

I will support and vote for whomever the Dem nominee is this year, but if the Democratic party blows it this year and loses, I will switch my affiliation to Independent, and vote 3rd party, probably mostly Green, whenever my vote for the Dem isn't absolutely essential.
I sent an email to the DNC yesterday to that effect. I wonder if a mass exodus from the Democratic party is the only thing that will get their attention.

So I'll just give the links here, with a brief wuote: http://www.moderateindependent.com/- ELECTION DAY UPDATE
UPDATE: Exactly as we told he he would, Drudge is posting a link to a right-wing taken exit poll which tries to push Edwards and Kerry and bury Clark. You see now, dear M/I reader, that this is all predictable at this point - it is what they do every single time - and that by calling it out ahead of time, candidates and parties can somewhat blunt the effect by informing people of the game. Again, the idea - with most of the voting still to be done at this point - is to demoralize the supporters on the candidates they are against, making it not seem worth their time going to the polls, and to energize the supporters of the candidates they want to win. This will now spread from Drudge to the supposed "mainstream" media, in some places subtly, in some places directly, as well as all over talk radio, etc. This is part of what we meant when we told you President Bush's re-election strategy will not be about simply presenting himself, it will be a ground war. Here is the warning that we gave you this morning that they would run this game... "Standard operating procedure for the Republican Mean Machine on election day is to release demoralizing leaks midday to try and suppress the voting for those they are against. Usually this begins with Drudge posting supposed info from a supposed insider, and then Zogby hits the air and starts hinting - not so subtly - that things are drastically going the way they want them to go. They usually turn up the heat later in the day by, usually around 4PM or so, having first Drudge than others flat out say it is a done deal for their guy before the evening voting starts."

I hope the people see it too and vote with their head who is best for this country and Wes Clark Sr. happens to touch alot of hearts like us supporters on DU and throughout this whole country.
God Bless Clark Jr. for loving his father and mother with all us supporters too! I pray General Clark succeeds and wins tonight...then we all win!

56. There is at least one thing |
|
we can do about the media. I have sent emails to a number of cable stations telling them that I am on to what they are doing and what their agenda is. I also told them that if Bush gets elected this November, I will be cancelling my cable subscription.
I think that if enough people were to cancel their cable subscriptions it might send them a message. At least it means that my money won't be going to subsidize right wing propoganda.
I also intend to send the same message to all of the mainstream print media that I used to purchase with some frequency. I am also going to email NPR and tell them exactly why they will never get a red cent from me. My mother and sister are both contributors to NPR, and have both decided to withdraw their support based on campaign coverage.
If money is the only thing these people understand, then this tactic might have some chance of getting through.
I'm feeling the same way everyone else is right now. :grr: :nuke: :grr: :nuke: :grr: :nuke: :grr: :nuke:

I was a draft participant also. This has given Wes a new life. He has gotten a lot of crap, but he has gotten a lot of love and admiration also. It has given him a chance to speak with Americans of all walks of life. He has new stature, and a new platform from which he will be heard whether or not he becomes the Democratic nominee. Wes is a true soldier. He has real courage, and he knew what he was getting into. I do feel bad about all the crap he has been dished, but I think we are the ones who have trouble staying strong. Even if Wes does not win the Presidency, he is a new powerful voice for all Americans. I know that we will shower Wes with love, win or lose, for what he has done for all of us. He has my undying respect and admiration.

|
Sorry, but the worst thing that could happen to the Clark campaign is to have the candidate's son openly speculating about losing Oklahoma and having his father drop out of the race BEFORE polls have even closed.
I can understand his frustration about the media coverage of Clark -- although people forget all the coverage -- largely positive -- Clark received when he first got into the race. But you don't want the bitch about it in public. It looks desperate.

but he should probably expect a mild General smackdown later this evening -- and well deserved. You don't go negative about your own campaigns outcome when you are still in the race and voters are at the polls. Also, as long as you're competing you can't whine about media coverage -- you still need something other than hostile, OVERT pounding from these guys.
The local press, particularly, has been fair to the Clark campaign.

40. with all due respect to Wes Jr. |
|
In politics (like in war) you make your own luck. The media is burying Clark because they don't think he is competitive. They also are not getting the input from the Democratic insiders like Carville, Begala, Stephanapolis etc that Clark is ready for prime time.
Perhaps today will turn out better for Clark and he will win Oklahoma and get some coverage. But Clark has not used the free media very well. He has not "made news" in the way candidates must. Dean has stayed in the limelight this past week by attacking everyone and their brother. Edwards has stayed in the limelight by pulling a strong fourth and taking South Carolina in VERY strong fashion. Edwards has been making his own momentum in part by leveraging support from Democratic office holders. Carville has said that he has never seen a better campaigner than Edwards but nobody is saying that about Clark.
Don't get me wrong. I am into Clark in a very big way. There was never any question in my mind about who would make the better President. But we need someone to beat Bush. Blaming the media is bad form in my view...even if it is true.

Well, He wasn't just talking about his dad's treatment. He was also commenting on the process in general.

46. Seeing as how the national media |
|
set up in South Carolina, it's kind of hard to make news if nobody's covering it.
Oh wait. They covered his speeding tickets, because they got the story from the wires.

42. Now the media will play this story |
|
as "sour grapes" because Wes is only ahead in the OK polls. :eyes: They will spin it so it's NONE of their fault what has happened to the Clark campaign. Wes Jr. is just tired and emotional. :eyes: He's just upset because his dad isn't going to win more states. :eyes: Watch 'em spin this! Just watch! :grr: IF they mention it at all, that is. :grr: It would tell people what they have done...on second thought, they won't talk about this at all. Why would they expose themselves? :grr: It will be ignored. :grr:
Go Wes!

44. network news sucks ass |

The day will come when "networks" are secondary to news obtained via internet. They will have no respect. Actually, that day has arrived as far as i am concerned.

It has really depressed me, as a Clark supporter, to see how the media is treating him. They never talk about his stands on the issues. I think Clark has the best tax plan, for example, and I never hear the media talk about it. It's so frustrating.
For the record, I'm ABB. And I happen to love Kerry, so I'll have no problem supporting him 100%. I'll support the candidate 100%, whoever it is. I just think Clark was a bit better than the others.

47. Clark's son is right about the Media, but |
|
wrong about him having to drop out if he loses OK tonight. Clark is a fighter, and I don't think he will give up that easy. Besides if he wins, they'll have to pay attention to him.

is absolutely correct about the media and their biased coverage of this race. General Clark has barely gotten a mention day after day after day.
These are the same folks who, leading up to the Iraq war, had extensive coverage of French wine being dumped on sidewalks and french fries being renamed instead of encouraging a serious national dialogue on the life and death issues of war.
Apparently Janet Jackson`s breast is far more important to this American life than is the fact that our country has been hijacked by the most dangerous administration in history.

51. Democrats/Sheeple are so stupid |
|
We have a perfect candidate to beat george bush and give Democrats a chance to get rid of the label as weak on defense and what do we do...blow it. The republicans and media whores will all be getting drunk tonight! Their biggest fear will be eliminated. We are all fools if we don't keep the General in this race. I can't believe it...I'm actually crying! It is so hard to stay positive but I will try hard and light another candle. Clark really got Gored! (I'd love to see a cartoon of Clark getting gored by a huge bull labeled Media)
Now the media are picking Edwards to be our VP. Can't the sheeple see what's going on? America wake up! We the people have lost control. Time to take the media back! I could go on and on...but I won't. I'm too upset and DISGUSTED with our democracy...What Democracy? Corporate/media control this world! The first time I've ever felt glad I was this old and won't be here in 30 years to see what the Republican media has done to this country. I feel sorry for my grandchildren. We will be like South America with few very rich and the rest of the country POOR and we will be looking elsewhere for any decent jobs. Most of their taxes will be going to pay for the deficit. Bye...I'm too upset to continue.

53. We need more people yelling about the right wing media |
|
Too bad our elected Democrats are too chicken to talk about it.
If every Democrat yelled about it at every chance every day for 20 years, like the Republicans did, maybe people would start to realize how right wing the U.S. media is.

58. When all this is over |
|
I hope Clark will write a book about his experience running for president, and will blow the lid off the candidate selection process in this country, and especially the way the corporate media has hijacked it. I think that book could be really damning and really damaging to the power brokers in our country.
I'm glad I was not part of the draft movement, I would be feeling really guilty right now if I had been.

67. I'm damn proud to be an early member of the draft Clark |

campaign. Even if Clark were to lose OK (which I hope he doesn't) we may be able to still have his brains/prestige/gravitas in our party. He could still be VP, Sec of ST or Sec of Defense. Even if he just goes home (which I wouldn't blame him) and happily retires and gets rich (I hope he does)and writes that tell-all book...he will have done wonderful things for our country and our party. He will be the most seeked expert on the war with terrorism. He'll go down in history as a great patriotic American hero...which he is! Go Wes Go...I'm with ya till the door hits me in the back! Maybe that door will knock me flat on my face...but I will get up and attack the Republican media with as much enthusiasm as I had for Clark.

70. I agree with Wes Jr's sentiment |
|
But he should not have said this. Period.
We need to slog on thru this shit! Even when Wes wins OK, this is gonna look bad . . . and cut off even more media to Clark.
I love Clark and Wes Jr. seems like a cracking fellow as well, but he let his emotions get away from him, and this is not good.
