KKK plans rally at Antietam Civil War site
My first thought was that these things usually involve nine KKK members and hundreds of people protesting them. But there's a point in this:

A white supremacist rally at Anti-etam is "an insult" to those who died there from North and South, says the Rev. Malcolm Stranathan, pastor of Salem United Methodist Church in nearby Keedysville, Md. "They were fighting for ideals that are far beyond what the Klan is about." To counter the Klan rally, Stranathan is organizing a prayer service in a chapel elsewhere on the battlefield and a concert and children's event in a local park.

"Because the Klan thrives on press, whether it's positive or negative, it's better to avoid their event altogether," he says. "Confrontation just lends itself to you playing in their field."

Apparently, the Klan believes there were no gay people during the Civil War, and that even immigration is a recent development! But the last few sentences really say it all...

Gordon Young, leader of the local Klan group, who applied for the demonstration permit, said Anti-etam was chosen for convenience but the site is also appropriate. "Our forefathers are flipping in their graves, and we need to do something to stand up and fight back. Immigration, homosexuals - they didn't fight and die for that."

Howard said the group requested a permit for 100 people to demonstrate. Park police will designate separate areas for media and for counterdemonstrators.

A Klan march organized by Young in 2004 in nearby Sharpsburg had nine participants.

3. I dont know
but it's hilarious how ignorant of history they are. In fact a fair number of the generals in both armies were foreign born.

7. How come, xultar?
Does it feed into their feelings of victimization, or something? (I hadn't heard that before.)

8. Yup. Fighting to put food on the table and gas in the car
makes some feel entitled and contempt for those they see as less entitled, black, hispanic, asian, female...

A lot more people fighting for a smaller piece of the american pie.

5. 9 misogynist inbred clowns....
can make "Yahoo News" and 10-100K (depending on whose estimate you use) in a DC protest are minamalized and ignored...I think we are approaching "man bites dog"....the msm are not surprised that 100k would protest war crimes, but finding 9 jerks in the same place with those views-yep, that IS amazing....

6. I wonder how many Freepers would join them if they were brave enough...
I believe the KKK has become a marginalized joke because MANY overtly oppose them, and FEW want to meet up with that opposition. They are afraid -- which isn't surprising, because I think the KKK is all about fear in the first place.

But what's not a joke is how many people still, it seems, agree with them. There are internet sites -- even AOL -- showing the same hatred of ANYone who doesn't fit their supremacist ideal of white male "Christian" dominance.

I think they've just gone into the closet out of fear. But they're still there, imho.

God forbid we return to a social climate where they EVER make anyone else afraid.
