NY Clark backer says campaign could be over for general
By MARC HUMBERT
AP Political Writer

February 3, 2004, 2:55 PM EST

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Evoking the image of Gen. George Custer's famed last stand, one of Wesley Clark's chief backers in New York said Tuesday it appeared the former general's race for the Democratic presidential nomination might be over.

"I think the general is about to meet Sitting Bull," said state Senate Minority Leader David Paterson, a Manhattan Democrat.

Paterson was referring to the 1876 battle in which Custer and more than 200 soldiers of the 7th Cavalry were wiped out by a force of Indians led by Sitting Bull at the Little Bighorn River in Montana.

"No one likes more a colorful battle reference than a senior soldier like Wes Clark, but in this case the storyteller was a little confused," said Clark spokeswoman Kym Spell. "The history of this war is far from written."

2. Stay in Clark, stay in Dean, stay in Edwards, stay in Sharpton...stay
in Lieberman. Now is the time to take a stand. I want my Michigan vote to count. I'm tired of the pundits herding us. :hi:

3. RIGHT WING!!! Why are we helping them?
:grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke:

ELECTION DAY UPDATE

UPDATE: Exactly as we told he he would, Drudge is posting a link to a right-wing taken exit poll which tries to push Edwards and Kerry and bury Clark.
:grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke:
You see now, dear M/I reader, that this is all predictable at this point - it is what they do every single time - and that by calling it out ahead of time, candidates and parties can somewhat blunt the effect by informing people of the game.
:grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke:
Again, the idea - with most of the voting still to be done at this point - is to demoralize the supporters on the candidates they are against, making it not seem worth their time going to the polls, and to energize the supporters of the candidates they want to win. This will now spread from Drudge to the supposed "mainstream" media, in some places subtly, in some places directly, as well as all over talk radio, etc.
:grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke:
Here is the warning that we gave you this morning that they would run this game... "Standard operating procedure for the Republican Mean Machine on election day is to release demoralizing leaks midday to try and suppress the voting for those they are against. Usually this begins with Drudge posting supposed info from a supposed insider, and then Zogby hits the air and starts hinting - not so subtly - that things are drastically going the way they want them to go.
:grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke:
They usually turn up the heat later in the day by, usually around 4PM or so, having first Drudge than others flat out say it is a done deal for their guy before the evening voting starts."

9. Moderate Independent has a story
that the Repubs are doing dirty tricks, trying to push Edwards ahead of Clark...it's also a story in the Chicago Tribune.

Drudge, Fox, & National Review reporting wonderful Edwards stories..do you see a pattern?

10. i don't get it either
why would a clark backer or anyone who supports a certain candidate say that about their own candidate whether things were looking good or bad for them ? especially while people are still voting. it just seems so stupid to me. what is the purpose of saying something like that ?

15. Mole? This guy is the leader of the NY State Senate Democrats
I really doubt that this guy ran as a Democratic for State Senator and became Minority leader just for the purpose of sabotaging General Clark's campaign.

8. What Tripe!
Media: "Experts speculate that Clark is finished."

Clark: "We've just begun to fight."

Voters: "Uh-oh, I don't know who to believe, maybe I better just vote for Kerry."

11. Sorry to detract from the original post but....
Do you have something against tripe?

I proudly represent the American Tripe and Other Organ Meats(ATOOM) and I find your "tripe" comment extremely offensive and slanderous!

Tripe is a healthy alternative to muscle based meats, for it contains a lot of good proteins and other nutrients.

What would become of the famous "Philadelphia Pepper Pot" soup without a generous incorporation with tasty morsels of tripe?

I am so outraged at the media. They are desperate to eliminated Dean and Clark from this race. They have the power to manipulate and boy are they using it :mad: :mad: :mad:

12. Incorrect and improper historical reference.
Crazy Horse led the mixed Sioux and Cheyenne force which defeated Custer. Sitting Bull was still recovering from the ritual self mutilation associated with his "vision" (describing soldiers falling in the Sioux camp) and did not participate in the fighting. Custer fought valiantly until the end and did not "give up" as the author suggests Clark should do.

14. He's a regular politician
May even be a good man, but he's citing conventional wisdom, which has already been wrong several times this year. This is my two minute break from making phone calls to OK voters. If you believe in Clark go to www.clark04.com and get a list of voters to call. Back to the phones...

18. They were hinting at that
on CNN a little while ago... if he doesn't win tonight, he's done. I could be wrong but I got the impression that they were saying Clark hasn't won.
