Josh Bolten: I don't have to show you any stinking Press Briefings!

"Televised Press Briefings!? We ain't got no televised Press Briefings. We don't need no televised Press Briefings! I don't have to show you any stinking televised Press Briefings!!"

Josh Bolton is considering doing away with televised Press Briefings

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/04/30.html#a8108

Chris Wallace asked if Bolton planned to do away with televised press briefings which is another signal that the administration wants to manipulate and silence the press. Chris uses the old " some people say" routine which really means right wingers who are angry that the press has the nerve to actually demand answers.

Wallace: Some people suggest that a way to improve relations with the press, would be to end the televising of the press briefings and all the posturing by members of the WH press corp...

Bolton: It's worth considering. I think that will be Tony Snow's first test to see what kind of power player he really is...My guess is in the short run it would hurt them. The judgement would be as we do in all things is look at the long run and see whether it's helpful in the long run...

1. "some people" like Roger Ailes?
"Don't want to put words in your mouth, put here are some words to put in your mouth..."

They are betraying a lack of confidence in Tony. Probably well-founded.

2. Best thing they could do
would be to stop the Daily Press briefings. Taking those "journalists" away from their "access" would be like takin' crack from an addict. They'd get mad at the WH and get their revenge by printing the truth. And their livid anger would be very evident in their writing and reporting. So, Bolton, keep usin' that noodle of yours and TRY to stop the Press Briefings.

:-)

3. They just don't want it televised
If you can't actually WATCH Tony Snow, hemming and hawing with flop sweat on his brow, then it doesn't look so bad.

Just a nice, sterile cleaned-up transcript.

The Press Briefing is still needed, of course as one of those "propaganda catapults" we've been hearing about.

5. I doubt very much THAT idea is in Snow's plan!
All those guys on TV have ego's the size of the World. After Snow having his own radio show and a lot of face time on TV, do you honestly think he'd be willing to give that up...just for Shrub?????

6. I seriously think Harper and Bush are colluding.
Last weeek Harper stopped the press from covering the military ceremony honouring the return of dead soldiers to Canada and he also stopped the lowering of the flag. Several weeks ago he stopped his Cabinet Ministers from commenting to the Press on anything. He copied Bush policy concerning the returning war dead now bush seems to be copying Harper.

Bush said Canada is harbouring terrorists. Something tells me that we are now going to witness to the extent of the collusion when Harper responds to this slap on the wrist.

7. As Busholini and The Neo Fascists sink lower
into the mire the WH Press Corps. may get bolder in their challenges to the crupt Busholini Regime. Televising that live is what these Neo Fascists dread.
