1. Thanks! I had not
seen it. If you have to have a commercial for religion, that's a good one.

5. I'm fine with advertising this stuff.
I think people need to know there's a Christian church that still follows Christian teachings.

There are too many who have gone for the loopy Calvinism of the ruling class.

6. OMG!!!!!!!!!
Love, caring and compassion for ALL???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How truly un-Christian. How unlike Jesus these people really are.
I mean. Just read the parable of the Samaratin.

There was this useless, non-working, government handout sponge lying in the road waiting for handouts. He claimed he had been robbed, but everyone knew he was a vagabond.
The first two men walked by him and rightfully refused to give this pox on society anything. They told him to stop preying on people and get a real job. Afterall, who did he think he was -- a Corporation! "No government handouts for you unless you make at least six million shekels in gross income a year." they screamed. Then they spat on him too.
Then along came some goody-goody, bleeding-heart Samaratin. As everyone knows, Samaratins are kind of like Sweden -- they don't encourage people to work, they give money to everyone, they love homosexuals and they hate Gawwwwd.
Anyway, the Samaratin helped this man, not in the Christian way by telling him to get a job and stop pretending he was in need, but by escorting him to town, paying for a room at the inn, getting him a doctor (the vagabond had no health savings plan which could have helped him in this time of crisis) and then he gave the worthless, non-industrious, vagabond money -- thus alleviating this scourges incentive to get better quickly and find a job.

What happened to the three men who came upon this indolent person?
God showered the first two with gold, silver and 100 virgins. God told them that their position in paradise was assured.
The Samaratin, on the other hand, was immediately stricken with several diseases. He died within a week and went straight to Hell.

10. what is this "commercial" that you speak of...?
And what is a "church?"

I'm being all superior and stuff about not letting the plug-in drug into my house-- or the opiate of the masses, for that matter.

11. mike, my friend, ya gotta see it to understand it .....
It is a commercial for the United Church of Christ ... the denomination that, for all the world, sounds like a batshit fundie religion. But it is quite the opposite. Inclusive, welcoming (not just 'tolerant') and liberal. As a 'come see us on Sunday' thing, it is quite hard hitting against the extremists. Think "Reverend Colbert'.

12. ok, that pretty much reinforced my general impression of xtianity....
For the record, I was raised in a fundie household from hell, figuratively speaking-- my parents left the southern baptist church BECAUSE IT WAS TOO LIBERAL, but that WAS back in the day before the SBC got involved in politics-- they left because it was not strict enough about it's adherence to scripture. I kid you not. They went to some very weird ministries. So I come by my disdain for christianity honestly.

That said, the UCC at least looks like it embraces liberal humanist views, even if from a Christian perspective. I'm sorry, H2S my friend, but I will never think well of the christian church. I've seen too much of the dark side.

14. I'm not quite where you are .... but I'm with you on being 'off' of
Christianity. I was raised (non-abusively) a Roman Catholic.

I've reformed.

I'm now a member of my own church, with a congregation of one .... me.
