Susan Sarandon receiving death threats, takes swipe at Hillary.
Actress and activist Susan Sarandon is the latest target of the right wing crazies of the world, as she is now receiving death threats, and she says she is also being blacklisted by some in Hollywood for her stance against the war.
Although she said that she didn't think anyone would ever try to kill her, she said that it wouldn't surprise her is someone tried to "knock her off the radio when I'm on". She also says she's been labeled a "Bin Laden lover".
She went on to say that her kids have been verbally attacked, and certain people in Hollywood have been trying to blacklist her, and make it so she never stars in another movie.

She takes a swipe at Hillary Clinton, labeling her a "politician". She cannot support her, and would love to find someone with a "moral bottom line". She says that most candidates have no moral compass, and a lot are caught up in the greed of Washington.

1. IMO, why can't we get "real " people who want to address issues
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 10:27 PM by smtpgirl
INSTEAD OF GAS BAGS,

Doesn't anyone want to address grassroots issues?

That is where it all starts.

In my neighborhood, I travel to NOVA (Northern VA) everyday. Once again, the VA legistlature has not passed the transportation bill, SO I WILL SLOG ANOTHER 90-120 MINUTES TO WORK ONE-WAY AGAIN M-F.

WHEN WILL IT END????????

2. FIRST, Bin Laden had nothing to do w/ Iraq till * opened the door
w/his (Bush's) stupid unilateral criminal invasion of Iraq.

Second, she's made her bones w/ her good faith, factually based, challenge to that invasion.

Third, she derserves IMHO our support against the sound bite Swift Booty types who profit from our invasion of Iraq (it's the lobbyists, stupid).

26. Yeah, unbelievable that we still have
something like 40% of the population that still believes that Saddam and Osama were best buddies, or that Saddam masterminded 9/11. How, after 4 years of this (run-up to the invasion and the Iraq War itself), can so much of the US population be so hopelessly addled? This isn't a trivial issue, it's a large part of what got us into war in the first place. It also probably helps to explain while 32% of the US population is still so mentally hobbled as to be supporting the unmitigated failure of the Bush Administration.

33. Unbelievable? the answer is simple!
It's the simple minded sound bite mentality of the vast majority of Americans, who vote on the basis of sound bites, in the MSM news and in the K Rove type TV ads, sad to say.

4. Hillary a politician? Where did Sarandon get that idea?
Just because Hillary has abandoned a number of key liberal issues in an attempt to navigate to the middle of the stream? Surely not.

14. Kucinich, Conyers, Boxer, Waxman,
In the House, these are the REAL Democrats. You probably don't recognize many names. They don't get much Face Time on the CorpoMedia because the first thing they want to do Bust Up the monopolies and re-institute the Fairness Doctrine.
Watch for these represenatives:
Cynthia McKinney,
Maxine Waters
Lynn Woolsey
Maurice Hinchey
Jan Schakowsky
Raul Grijalva
Major Owens
Barbara Lee
Pete Stark
Jim McDermott
Tammy Baldwin
Melvin Watt
John Lewis
Edward Markey
John Tierney
Kucinich
Waxman
Conyers

Pickings are thinner in the Senate:
Kennedy & Boxer,

Lautenberg and Dayton are also turning in decent consistent voting records.

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.

Democrats, passionate about Democracy. Twice, the House was the only governmental source standing
up to the imposed tyranny of the election thieves. What bravery, what dedication.

10. It sounds as if she's getting the Vanessa Redgrave treatment.
Edited on Mon May-01-06 03:15 AM by Old Crusoe
A lot of Hollywood actors over the years have spoken up on issues and candidates. Reagan, a B actor and a D-minus president, ran 3 times and was twice elected. (He lost the nomination to Ford in 76, who lost to Carter in November.) Both parties always have big celebs in the floodlights for issues and candidates. Nothin' new there.

Also not new: the rush to gang up on smart, talented, famous women because they have the audacity to speak their peace under the First Amendment. Blacklisting and death threats suggest that the listers and callers are extremely insecure.

My hat's off to Ms. Sarandon.

11. Being attacked for having strong opinions is
nothing new. We have always had fanatics and power/war mongers. It has just become so in our faces that it's hard to take. However, it would be more difficult for someone to hurt her and not be caught at it, now that we have the "internets".

May this all come to an end quickly.

not just "the latest". Remember when they were 'disinvited' from the Baseball Hall of Fame's screening of Bull Durham?

17. How 'bout Sue's husband? He's equally 'vocal' politically? AND a Producer
Is he equally being harrassed for his political outspoken-ness? If all else fails, let Tim put her in his long-running national "hit" stage play. OR produce new movies, and put her in them.

Yet it's a pity she's being harassed. But "putting it out there" and letting others know about it...hopefully will protect her, and help the harassment stop.

THOUGH PERHAPS A NOTE TO US ALL: "Do NOT criticize Hilary AT ALL in any manner in future."]

31. You Know...
I am so tired of conservatives who think liberals love bin Laden. I haven't seen any evidence of it. This isn't another "Hanoi Jane" situation. I am going to say it right here--no liberals have ever stated that they love bin Laden. We were just as sickened by 9/11 as conservatives were. But we cannot go along with a President who exploits post-9/11 fear for his own political gain. And that is what Bush constantly does. So are we really so wrong in going against Bush? It's what you are *supposed* to do in a democracy if your leader isn't doing the right thing. I just wonder if conservatives truly believe in democracy at all. If they think they do, then they are certainly not showing it. Why would any other country want to go along with us & embrace democracy if we don't even practice it ourselves?
