Are there white knights .... or even allies .... on the right?
As the shit stacks deeper in the streets than the debris that was the 9th Ward, I am set to wonder ...... are there any white knights, or more, genuine allies, on the right?

In the Nixon years, it was the right who eventually led to his ouster. Whether for ideological, political, or altruistic reasons continues to be a subject of debate. Nonetheless, it happened.

Are there, today, any allies on the right?

I'm thinking of Bob Barr, as but one. The pit bull for the 'rule of law' during the Clinton impeachment, he has come out more than once in direct oppposition of Il Dunce's cabal.

I'm thinking of Trent Lott. Never a friend of the BFEE, and later a victim of their evil machinations (admittedly brought on by his own words), he has been sounding increasingly moderate. Dare I say reasonable?

Today, General Toady, Colin Powell, is making some serious noise about the 'lead up to the War'. So strong, in fact, that the Ice Princess of Feragamo was put off her scheduled and rehearsed talking points on the Sunday morning propaganda shows to refute what her predecessor said.

Pat Buchannon, Reactionary Xenophobe Extraordinaire and uberconservative, has never been on board with this crew.

His mentor, that aging scion of John Birch, William F. Buckley has been making noises. I'm not sure if it is a sour stomach or a sour outlook, but he's rumbling. And the noise isn't good for Junior or his enablers.

Even some of the chattering class have been at odds at times with the blastfaxer DailyPressOrders talking points that Rove churns out. Regular Joe started in the wake of Katrina and has become more strident in the months since. Even TheThugFormerlyKnownAsBowTieBoy hasn't been four square in their corner.

If these guys are even close to the lug nuts, the wheels will soon be off the bus ...... or ......

.... am I wishing for something that simply isn't there? Might this seeming discord simply be a way to institutionally take congressional candidates one step further away from Ceaser Disgustus' ingrown coat tails?

I really don't know.

What do you think?

1. I think Trent Lott and Bob Barr
are raging assholes. The only reason they'd be making noise is because they're not on the inside.

3. I'm almost ashamed to admit it...

...but I've found myself cheering for Pat Buchannon a couple of times in the last year or two. I remember almost wrecking my car on the D.C. beltway during the Reagan years when Pat Buchannon spewed his vitriol on the air-- it's ironic that I find myself agreeing with him occasionally these days where the neocons are concerned. Pat is like the Goldwater republicans....

5. I believe this thread belongs in the Lounge
because the concept is laughable. They'll cling one and all to the bumper until the vehicle drives off the cliff.

6. To what end are you seeking RW allies?
All those you mentioned are out of the power loop right now, and none are as trustworthy as a snake. No rightie with any power right now is willing to join a coalition against bush, but that tide might be turning as we speak. If it's impeachment you're wondering about, then it could happen, perhaps even before the midterms. Common enemies make allies before commonground. But it will be purely out of self-interest on their part, and not some altruistic or noble motive.

If it's some legislative or humanitarian act, then there are probably too many ideological differences for any lasting type of coalition. The first thing Repubs would squawk about is taxes, and the whole thing would be shot.

8. I'm not 'seeking' RW allies at all .....
.... but you're close when you say 'common enemies make allies before common ground'. That was the case with Nixon and that could be the case now. In fact, unless we get back both houses of congress in the midterms, it is about the **only** hope we have.

The names I threw out were just the obvious ones.

7. I don't think so
If we do, they're in the closet.

I believe that almost one and all jumped into the deep end of the corruption pool to one extent or the other. They wouldn't dream of going against the BFEE and friends.
