Cynics don't read this or reply.....How can WE arrange an economic boycott |
|
Edited on Mon May-01-06 06:46 PM by Flabbergasted
Why not keep building? We see what is possable...So why not get one going? Say Memorial Day WEEKEND? This would really get some attention to the Antiwar movement!
Most of what I've witnessed on this site since Alito got confirmed is cynicism! I'd really love to see alot more progressive thought and much less defeatist thought!

1. We need a national strike |
|
one that lasts as long as needed... and I'd say two weeks will be enough to bring these boys to their knees.
Today may very well be the begining

3. I agree with both comments |

we need a national strike, but we'll have to get there step by step, as people begin to feel/become aware of, their actual power...

It's doable. Regardless of what one thinks about the goings on of today, that has to be admitted. It was also amazing how fast it was all pulled together.
A prolonged boycott will also take planning on a personal level. How can individuals go without for a week or longer? Also, how can this make a dent, i.e. there has to be some *actual* sacrifice for the cause--not just stocking up before and/or after the designated period.

5. You don't have to look at it like that! What we need is exposure to the |
|
idea! Then build from there!

6. A national strike coupled with rallies and protests |
|
It's straight from the playbook of the Ukrainians, Georgians and Lebanese.

7. Which is straight of OUR PLAYBOOK. WE ARRANGED THOSE...... |
|
We don't have that resource. We need to think about STEPS. Start with a one day economic boycott on a national level.

8. OK, if you want to start from step one, you need to get the word out in... |
|
the activist community, first and foremost. They are the messengers. They're the first to bring the good news and the bad. You need to put the word out in this community and give it time to cycle through because they are often members of other communities that may not be as activist but are open to change and new ideas.

organizations from Moveon.org to messengers in the blogosphere like Daily-Kos to labor unions that aren't scared to "rock the boat." The only question is getting them to come to a broad consensus on which to operate, and it's probably going to take a while given the large number of organizations.
United for Peace and Justice could easily serve as an umbrella organization. UPJ people are veterans when it comes to organizing mass protests. They have people on the ground; they've got a presence in many cities and towns already in the form of chapters. If there is anybody at this second who is in the best shape to do it, it's the folks at UPJ.

12. Here is what I would do..... |
|
I would start with DU...Try to get a group together to convince others on this very site. Considering how this hispanic boycott was spread and with the option of emailing (like the exxon gas boycott recently) it could be done without formal aggrements from orgs. May need to Push it back to fourth of July weekend?

10. You are absolutely right |
|
One like those or the one in Serbia that got rid of Milosivich. The students organized that one and people from all over the country descender on the capital and basically just took it back and then handed the reigns of power to the rightfully elected president. We need the leadership to act and perhaps another stolen election will be the impetus for it IF it can get widely disseminated, and that will be hard with the controlled media that we have But it could start here with Skinner and his crew joining with Move On and other on line organizations getting together to promote it. I can only say that if it were to happen I would forsake what little I have to be a part of it because it may be the last chance we have.

15. we need to choose one company-one that is emblematic of Bush's regime. |

it will be much more impressive if we focus our efforts on,say,Exxon, rather than an industry.
