The Big Oil companies are watching our Congress very closely...
If you can recall the last two weeks, we saw the price of gasoline rise about 30 cents per gallon over a very short time. Every day seemed to bring another increase of a few cents at a time. However, for the last few days, the prices have "stabilized" and remained steady. Why?

In my opinion, the prices stopped when the politicians started talking about windfall profits and splitting up the Big Oil companies to permit more competition. But the prices are not going down.
The oil companies are watching the Congress to see what direction they are going before they plan their next move with price increases. If they fail to do anything about keeping the prices in line, the oil companies will interpret that as a green light and we will see the prices shoot up again, imo...

1. You're probably right
Although I don't think the oil companies have anything to worry about from this corrupt Congress or their bestest buddies in the White House.

2. KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE FEEDING TROUGH.
THEY STAY REAL CLOSE TO THE TROUGH. THEY HAVE PUT ALL THEIR EGGS IN ONE BASKET AND THEY ARE WATCHING THAT BASKET.
I WONDER HOW MUCH PROFIT HAS BEEN HIDDEN AND NOT REPORTED. I USED TO WORK IN THE INDUSTRY AND THERE HAVE BEEN DAYS WHEN I GOT PAID 48 HOURS IN ONE DAY. IT STILL GOES ON TODAY.

3. Ahhhh, remember this story?
Senator Promises Investigation Into Gasoline Price Rise

Published: May 30, 2001
In a swift display of how a Democratic-run Senate will alter the debate in the capital, one of the newly empowered Democrats announced today that he would open an investigation into the recent increase in gasoline prices.

The senator, Carl Levin, a Michigan Democrat who will become chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations next week, said in statement that ''the oil companies need to explain why gas prices have increased so dramatically given that there's been no comparable increase in the per barrel cost of oil to them.''

Mr. Levin's move signaled an aggressive posture by Democrats on an important pocketbook issue and came as the Democrats stepped up their plans to assume control of a chamber of Congress for the first time in more than six years. The ability to run investigations is one of the many levers of power held by the majority party.

When the Democrats retook the Senate in 2001 (Jeffords switched to Independent), the Democrats promised an investigation into rising gasoline prices. And the price suddenly dropped the very same day the Democrats made the announcement!

Coincidence?

5. If The Big Oil Companies Are Gouging Us - Colluding To Keep Gas...
prices high or on the uptick - surely there must be someone from within that has a conscience that could leak a memo or something to expose these guys.

You got to think that they are not doing this in a vacuum without some discussion between them - however veiled it may be.
