Delta Gamma Sorority to Serve as Technicians in Ohio Election-NOT FakeNews
This is NOT fake news, it’s real, from the Akron Beacon Journal, OHIO May 2, 2006.
Are you ready…?

“Jones said the board had believed that ES&S was going to provide company-trained technicians, as he believes its contract requires.

Instead, the company reached out to the Delta Gamma sorority to hire college students for the work. He said ES&S officials knew the sorority president and asked her to recruit interested fraternity or sorority members.”

Oh, but there’s more…

Elections Board member Wayne Jones, a Democrat, said Friday he is not happy with the caliber of "rovers" the company is providing -- sorority and fraternity members from the University of Akron -- and is going to put a stop to them.

Jones said the board had believed that ES&S was going to provide company-trained technicians, as he believes its contract requires.

"We're not going to allow them," he said. ``They're untrained, and they're not bipartisan. We can't have people walking around the polling places that don't have a clue about what they are doing. We'll have our teams out there.''’

34. That would mean Laura and daughter since they were/are KATs.
Edited on Wed May-03-06 10:18 AM by efhmc
But that would also mean my feminist Dem daughter (KAT)so generalizations are really not the point here. It is that these darings are not qualified.

10. It's nice to know you're not prejudiced.
I'd say maybe 3 of the 26 members of my fraternity actually supported the chickenhawk-in-chief in 04. Don't lump everyone together. Nobody buys our grades for us. I've been working (sometimes more than one job) since before I was legally able to do so. I bought a 9 year old car with the money I EARNED, not what mommy and daddy gave. I've got probably 40,000 in debt by the time I graduate this summer. I'm not rich, neither is my family, and for that matter neither are the majority of my friends. Your post is totally unfounded in reality.

Frankly, I find it personally offensive and very presumptuous to assume you know everything about me just because I belong to a fraternity. Do you see Catholics and automatically assume that they're all "pro-lifers" who want to ban abortion and install the Pope as dictator? Probably not. However your thorough analysis is just as astonishing. Please pull your head out of the sand for long enough to notice the sun has set your pants aflame. Why does it seem America's #1 export is ignorance?

16. Although there certainly are exceptions. . .
I worked as an academic advisor for years at a major research university with a large Greek system, and I've seen thousands of student files. and I can tell you from my perspective that on balance, the stereotypes you argue against are richly deserved and persistent.

I think it's great that you don't fit that stereotype and have achieved a lot on your own, and it sounds like you pledged a really good house.

23. The thread is about outrageous elections practices, not DG's.

It's outrageous that we don't see our vote cast, can't see it counted, and can't ever see
the vaporware invisible votes BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL THE PRIVATE PROPERTY (YEP) OF DIEBOLD OF
WHICHEVER VENDOR OWNS THE MACHINES. We can't look at the machines, they're "trade secrets."

It's outrageous that we vote on machines period when Canada and Great Britain are able to
do all paper ballots election even and have them counted in public with as many on lookers
as show up.

It's outrageous that the great state of Ohio is selecting a private group (of any type!) to
serve as technicians for the DAMN ELECTION!!!

What's happened to this country. DG's fine, love 'em, have noting to do with this.

THE OUTRAGE IS OUT SOURCING THE ELECTIONS TO MACHINES OWNED BY PRIVATE VENDORS AND

NOW!!!

HAVING A PRIVATE GROUP - OF ANY TYPE - SERVE AS TECHNICIANS. THIS IS PURE INSANITY.

GO READ THE THREAD AND FILE A COPMLAINT.

13. Why?
Because their families might be wealthier than someone not in the Greek System? Last I heard, college educated men and women were just as likely to vote Democrat as Republican.

Next time, please keep your stereotypes and gross generalizations to yourself. Thanks.

19. Delta Gamma Lefty checking in here.
I also will say that I attended a private university in Ohio. I don't pay attention to the sorority stuff now, but many of the members of my sorority went on to be activists against the Viet Nam war, Vista volinteers, Earth Day people, Peace Corp. etc. It was an awakening time for many of us back in the 60's, and it had nothing to do with whether someone was in a fraternity or a sorority.

My nephew who attends college in North Carolina, recently joined a fraternity, to the dismay of my sister. Yet he reently joined the Young Democrats at his school and is becoming quite the activist.

27. As Jon Stewart says, "You can't write this stuff." I'm all for
community involvement and contributions and I'm sure the DG's are doing this as a service
project. But ES&S has a contractual obligation to do this work. It's an absurd notion
that you just get college kids from one sorority or one any other type of organization to
do business THAT THE STATE HAS PAID FOR and that requires official sanction or state employees.

Though a distant second to the Pi Phis. Nonetheless, this is a really, really stupid idea.

ON EDIT: I'm an almost whole-cloth Socialist, and I'm also a Sigma Chi. Just because someone is a member of a Greek organization doesn't make him or her a conservative, a Republican, a voluptuary or an idiot. And I find the stereotype pretty irritating.

They were totally loaded. Full time cook, maintenence dude, even a housekeeper that made up their rooms daily.

They even hired frat boys (myself included) to serve them dinner.

A sense of entitlement, none of it earned, is a dangerous thing.

35. I think you all might be missing the bigger issue here. It would appear..
...that this ES&S has little or NO fear of any Laws that would make this illegal and could land them in Jail. WHY?

Why would they do something this bold?

Have enough laws been re-written now, or have enough people been paid off, that they have No Fear of the Law anymore?
