There already is an official Spanish version of the national anthem |
|
It was commissioned in 1919 for the Federal Bureau of Education (I think I got that right).
So... 1. What's the big deal and 2. Didn't really need a second one, did we.

1. you know what i say -- who the fuck cares? |
|
they can sing the star spangeled banner in martian.
fine.
urdu?
fine.
once someone has sung it recorded it and put it out on the airwaves -- it's all too late.
you would other wise have to prohibit and stop the printing of any other version.
and frankly the anthem -- any anthem -- just doesn't make my balls tingle.

5. Just thought I'd share what a local talk guy said today |
|
His comment was that Bush's people should have done some research, and that a less divisive thing for Bush to say would have been, "so people want to sing the anthem in Spanish. Fine. We have an official version if anyone wants to use it."
Thought it was an interesting comment. The talk guy pointed it up as just one more thing wrong with Bush, that his people couldn't research. About the most liberal thing I've heard the guy say so far.

8. You can't do research with your gut, you must use your head. |

That's something * and company are not good at.
Who cares if someone sings it in Russian, Chinese, or Venusian? If they are sincere and don't pull a Roseanne, more power to them.

I disagree that this was simple incompetence. Even if they knew about the official version (and there's chance they did know), I think the divisiveness has been fostered on purpose. Divide and conquer, distract, etc.
If there's any incompetence at play, it may be that this is hurting them more than its helping.

3. I heard Ed Schultz point out that Bush had a Spanish version |
|
of the National Anthem played at his inauguration . . . so, as Big Eddie said today, "Who is he pandering to?"

From what I can find with the help of google, I think he sang America the Beautiful in a combination of English and Spanish.
