I noticed a marked increase in Rep voters in my HEAVY Dem precinct.
I worked the polls in the University area of Columbus Ohio. We voted for Kerry....963 to 83 in '04. We had 8 hour lines and finished voting well after midnight. Today we had a 70 Dem to 35 Rep turnout. The usual ratio is 10-1 Dem. I also noticed several of the Reps had historically voted Dem. The Rep poll workers didn't notice. At the poll closing we had 24-10 Petro over Blackwell. I think there was a little bit of cross party sabotage. Anyone else notice a trend?

3. I don't understand how a poll worker would know a person's voting history.

5. Republicans for Ferris were encouraging Reps to cross-over
and vote for Ferris over Kucinich in Cleveland.

Is there any Dem race that Repubs would care about in Columbus enough to tell people to cross-over?

6. Blackwell, I think you misunderstood. I think Dems crossed to vote

Petro in order to tank Blackwell. We have NEVER had a 2-1 ratio of Dem to Rep. Like I said, in '04 we voted Kerry 10 to 1.

7. I am shocked, shocked I tell ya
that this could happen!

Hell, that was the fun of living in Texas. I got to vote against GWB all the time in primaries AND the general election. The only problem was that nasty red Republican stamp on my voter card.

9. We used to call it plunking...cross overs in the primary to pick the
weaker candidate so in the General...the incumbent faces the weak guy and usually wins...an old tatic but still used today...

10. I think this is why Edwards got 25% here in WI
The RW radio guys were telling all their listeners to go and vote for him in our open primary.

11. Edwards got 25% in WI because they finally started debating globalization
in WI and people liked the fact that he voted against a few trade bills.

A Stanford and UT study on 700 D and R primary voters (I think it was called The Informed Voter Survey) found that voters liked Edwards the most (and more than Bush too) and the reason was because of his positions on labor issues and free trade. WI was the only state where those issues seeped into the popular discourse, so it's no surprise that Edwards went up in the polls as the primary got closer and everyone else went down.

12. Its no secret Informed Voters are the best odds for improving our
collective lives...our Citizens

There should be a filter for crossovers which can circumvent the best being elected....

15. Uh - no.
We tell you this and tell you this - us folks who live in these areas - Edwards got more votes because he was the WEAKEST of the most viable candidates and Republicans, who didn't have a dog in the presidential primary of 2004, were TOLD to go out and vote for him. They didn't like him, they thought he'd be weaker against Bush in a general election.

I used to have links to Republican web sites that prove this, but they posts are long gone.

I don't know why you can't accept this.

16. In Wisconsin, the polling indicated a trajectory and election day
was consistent with that trend. I really doubt that the polling was measuring increasing weakness.

And that trend was consistent with the results of the informed voter survey in which people actually had to discuss what they liked about candidates. I doubt the argument, "we're Republicans and we want to nominate the weakest candidate to run against Bush" was the winning argument in those informed voter discussion groups.

And it is a fact that the only time globalization came up was in the period before WI, and that happens to be the issue that made the informed voters like Edwards more than anyone, including Bush.

You should probably go look for your links again.

17. Fact check: Edwards got 34.3% to Kerry's 39.6% in Wisconsin
Faulty memory? Perhaps you're misremembering the right wing radio programming too?
