What's this about ballot counting being delayed in Ohio?
The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections will delay the counting of more than 17,000 absentee ballots until midnight, potentially slowing the unofficial final results of some close races, Bob Bennett, chairman of the board, announced late Tuesday afternoon.

In prior elections, absentee ballots were the first votes counted.

Board employees will have to count the absentee ballots by hand because the new electronic machines that read the ballots malfunctioned Tuesday morning during testing. Exactly when the count will be completed is unclear.

Bennett said the board will launch an investigation Wednesday into the problem. The machines are made by Diebold Elections Systems, which also makes the touch-screen voting machines used at the polling locations.

1. Blackwell delayed it
supposedly because of the need to keep one of the precincts open late due to the late start this morning.

Stinks to high heaven.

I'm also wondering why we still haven't seen the vote count for District 10 - Kucinich.

2. I wonder how many Republicans voted for Ferris
These people have turned election stealing into an art form.

3. Hopefully not many
They would really have to do some major vote stealing to make a difference in that race.

4. The count will be completed as soon as they rig the results.
Blackwell was behind Petro 44% to Petro's 56%......now Blackwell has zoomed ahead. Go figure.

5. Good old Diebold!
Next thing you know, Ken Blackwell will be on everyone's list for VP on GOP ticket.

6. This is a real mess. I've been out and away from media reports.
So I'm not up on this and am very tired. I will catch up tomorrow and post my thoughts.

Last report I heard this afternoon, Blackwell refused to step in saying all 88 country boards of election were a local matter. What changed his mind?

8. 11 news says 17,000+ absentee ballots must be hand counted.
New machines have problem and cannot do the count. 40+ workers are being called in and the hand count will begin at midnight. This will take like two days to complete the count.

We have new rules on absentee and it is now easier to throw out ballots.

What a mess thanks to Diebold! So much for that fair election crap that the sheep fell for.

11. Diebold again!
I would trust a hand count more than any of those machines.

I was wondering why there was nothing posted on Blackwell's Sec of St website.

12. You're welcome!
Dennis is unbeatable! That crazy woman couldn't touch him. She looked like a fool interrupting his constituent meeting.

Blackwell would have had to destroy tens of thousands of votes in that race and he didn't dare do it.

13. I wonder if Ferris will run as an independent again
as she did in 2004. She is a GOP stealth candidate, and like you said, she has a few loose screws in her head.

Some polling places didn't open on schedule due to poll workers not
showing up. The Repubs are in charge of manning the polls.

Guess which ones had the no-show workers? Yep, the 3 main Democrat
stronghold precincts. Just another "glitch". Go figure. :eyes:

17. Things are really delayed in Ohio, Cuyahoga County!
2 Days after the primary election:

Reported on the noon news (Thursday, May 4) on Newsnet5:

Cuyahoga County election results still not complete.

Blame game still going on. Absentee ballots still being counted, will not be done until tomorrow (Friday), they think.

BOE is blaming the Mayfield company that printed the ballots as the cause for the problems!!!!!!!!!!

This is a three ring circus and should not be tolerated by the voters in this county and in Ohio.

But what can we expect from a state that votes for Blackwell and Ney in the Republican primary.

Are people this stupid or blind or are the vote counts being rigged?

18. He who controls the voting machines, controls the outcome!
I am firmly convinced that Gore won Florida in 2000 and Kerry won Ohio in 2004. Unless we demand a standard voting system across the country, one that uses paper ballots, and one that allows people to mail their ballots early, we will remain at the mercy of the GOP and their corporate friends such as Diebold, ES&S and others.

19. I absolutely agree but I believe it goes back further than 2000.
There was no valid reason to change our system of voting. All we had to do was make sure all the votes were counted.

There was also no need for One Child Left Behind or Homeland Security. There is no need to reform Social Security or make private accounts.

Once we get this maniac out of our government, we need to reverse all he did while being selected.

21. What do you mean by "demand"
if they don't provide one, or, for that matter, just stop letting people in Democratic precincts vote, what can we do?

20. Update on hand ballot counting, Thursday, 5-04-06, 5pm.
Reported on five o'clock news on Newsnet 5:

Many calling for BOE Director Vu to resign. (Good idea! I don't know where he came from or how he got the job.)

Absentee ballots are still being counted, count may be done by tomorrow afternoon (?).

The cost is mounting and estimated to be at least $50,000. ($50,000 TO COUNT 17,000+ BALLOTS?)

Some candidates and some tax issues still cannot be decided because the votes are close so they are hanging in the balance.

Are these "counters" stretching the count out to make more money? It seems that nearly $3 a ballot seems a bit high to me.

22. You can be sure the counters are not being paid $3 per vote.
The job of hiring counters will have been given, in a no-bid contract, to one of B*s buddies, who will obediently achieve the counts the decider has decided on, and pay the actual counters a nickle a vote for participating in the illusion.

And then bury the results, along with any objectors.
