A letter in the NYT on the lack of mention of Colbert in their paper
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/03/opinion/l03colbert.html

To the Editor:

I was stunned to read your recounting of the White House Correspondents' Dinner ("A New Set of Bush Twins Appear at Annual Correspondents' Dinner," White House Letter, by Elisabeth Bumiller, May 1), which did not mention the bravura performance of Stephen Colbert of "Comedy Central."

Perhaps the truth hurts, as it was obvious from the audience's reaction that the media lack self-awareness. Mr. Colbert managed to tell more truths about America's political condition in a few minutes than I've read in the professional print media in the last six months.

1. The tip-off for the Times coverage is the byline
Elisabeth Bumiller has been writing her weekly valentine to Bush since before he assumed the presidency. The woman's so delusional, it's a wonder she can dress herself (assuming she does).

5. I submitted one to the Merc. ...
Too bad K-R is sold and BOUGHT OUT. I have a neighbor who gets a letter in every 3-4 weeks regarding our school... it's been 7 weeks now.

The Merc is gone. 15 years of subscriptions ... soooo sad

6. Paper of record? It was an historical moment - a single person
exposed the corruption and lies of the media AND the press in a public forum in the President's FACE for the first time. And they barely deigned it worthy of mention. Amazing.

7. Wolcott on Bumillier

A note about the Stephen Colbert monologue at the Correspondents' Dinner that Elisabeth Bumiller seems to have slept through face-down in her entree.
