Who thinks there will be any surprises tonight?
:) Or will everything go as the pundits have predicted, more or less? Will Edwards do much better than just SC? Will Dean surprise in a couple of states? Will Kucinich surprise in one state? Will Kerry do as well as he is expected? Who really thinks we will make it thru tonight without a surprise or two??? :)

1. Edwards could take Oklahoma
THAT would give his campaign a boost, because he was not expected to win there. It would force Clark out of the race, allowing Edwards to have the whole south to himself. The last minute endorsement by Barry Switzer may help Edwards, though I hope for his sake that those taped messages did not go out to folks in Stillwater.

4. Edwards would be a huge story if he won OK.
the size of Kerry's win in Mo. will be big too, especially if he passes 50%.

8. They over-estimated Edwards in NH....is he as strong as they think
and Clark beat him for third in NH. He's an attractive candidate but even with his momentum, he could not finish third? Is the same thinking at play in OK also?

5. I disagree
OK will probably be too close to grant an outright winner -- except by the slimmest margin. Even then, I think Clark will still be on top.

If I had to guess, Clark will end up with delegates in 4 states: OK, AZ, NM & ND. Edwards will end up with delegates in SC, OK & possibly MO. No clear winner between them.

Kerry wins the most states and the most delegates and remains, without dispute, the front-runner.

I don't see Clark dropping out unless he's blown out by Edwards in TN and VA.

14. From what I heard
The Switzer calls went to OU alumni and supporters. Don't know if there's any truth to that or not.

2. I do!
Bush will admit his nickname at Yale was "Chimpy".

Ed Gillespie will admit to using steroids.

Dick Cheney will admit that the whole point of attacking Iraq was to prop up the Texas economy.

Jenna Bush will admit that she plans to vote for Dennis Kucinich.

Bill Frist will be forced to admit that the white powder found in his mailroom came from an outgoing letter.

Ann Coulter and Katherine Harris will hold a press conference in Moosejaw, BC to announce that they were married last night.

Oh, and Joe-Mentum will win the Missouri primary, allowing him to stay in the race through Feb 7.

3. The media
has an endless capacity to be surprised by results their incompetence could not foresee. The way the independents break has usually been more for Edwards. That would not be a real surprise if he does better than the surface polling, but he is laboring under a burden. Nor would it be a surprise if people fall into line for the powerfully good candidacy of John Kerry unless he were to overwhelm lingering doubts about electability.

The media gets to define the "surprise" on their own terms.

6. No surprises
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 05:18 PM by xultar
Kerry wins 5
Edwards wins 2
Clark drops out.

That is what I'm reading in the threads? Anyone else seeing anything different?

10. Clark doesn't have any intention of dropping out,
nor any reason to. He has a good message, decent support around the country, and enough money to continue on. There will still be what, 85% of the delegates up for grabs? The worry about Kerry is that he isn't electable; what if a smoking gun starts pointing at him? Clark should keep running until he is out of money. And no matter what happens tonight, I'm contributing to him tomorrow.

11. You might infer that from some
threads but you still wouldn't know jackshit -- this is online cheer and jeer-leading. It isn't information. The poll results will be revealed.

9. Surprise: Dean will bow out
As I Dean supporter from the very beginning (think October '02), I'm now of the opinion that Dean is toast. I'm not going to reflect on why, because at this point it's all moot. The sad fact is, he is doing poorly in the polls and will be unlikely to register anything more than a third place finish in any primary today. I could be wrong that he'll bow out today, but I do believe it will happen very soon.

On a brighter note, Lieberman is gone after tonight for sure. Good riddance!

16. I believe Al Sharpton will pull a huge surprise tonight....
he may shock everyone by coming in a strong second in South Carolina, but the real question is who would be knocked into third?
