Rep. Louise Slaughter says "Drain the Swamp" / Lobby ReformFloor Fight!
Edited on Wed May-03-06 04:23 PM by KoKo01
There was a "floor fight" in Congress just now where Dems led by Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (NY) proposed a motion to "Recommit" (Block the Repugs weak Lobby Reform Bill) and get her Democratic Amendment Passed.

Many BOOS from the Dems broke out along with CHEERS from the Repugs as a Roll Call vote was ordered. The vote is going on now. C-Span!

Slaughter's tough amendment would "shut down K Street" and introduce severe Lobby Reforms that the Repugs say "are only because of a few bad apples."

Anyway Slaughter is a Powerhouse if you've ever heard her speak. Sort of a "Grandma Dolly Parton," with her accent and clear cut manner of speaking.

Here's what she was trying to do from her website. :toast: to her and our Democrats for trying to "DRAIN THE SWAMP!"

Vote is ON NOW on C-SPAN....

4. Kick for DEM POWERHOUSES ...who were TRASHED by Dobbs/CNN!
They are out there WORKING FOR US...but because of WEAK DEM LEADERS like Pelosi and Reid.....they get NO ATTENTION!

Agains...:toast: for Louise Slaughter...She's so good...you all should look at what she's done...but No you'd rather argue about whether Kerry was dissed and your own pet peeves before you look at what REAL DEMS are TRYING TO DO!

5. Here's the Yea/Nay voting info - and the 4 Dems that ruined this:
Edited on Wed May-03-06 08:19 PM by cyberpj
These 4 voted NAY - and could have made a difference:
Boucher
Capuano
Murtha
Sabo

plus Evans "not voting"

ps - My rep is Republican (Castle) and I'm proud to say he was one of the Repub YEAs. Thanks Mike. Glad to see you're still an independent thinker.

10. Capuano
represents liberal Cambridge and Somerville. Would you mind posting the details in the Massachusetts forum?

8. Louise Slaughter is truly a star! I wish more DU'ers had seen her because
she like the others the MSWhore Media never reports on is a TRUE STAR of the DEMs.

I shouldn't say this...but if we wanted a "female" to replace Pelosi...she's a "GO GETTER" and smart as a whip. She doesn't have forgetful moments like Reid and Pelosi do where they sometimes fall "vacant" and have to refer to their "speech or talking points" when a Major Dem Support issue comes up for review or a session with reporters is out there.

9. I second that
I'd very much like to see her in a leadership position, clearing the way for Jim McGovern to be the chair of the rules committee.
