3. Hey BW - Welcome Back! We need all the help we can get...
I think the biggest news - pop culture wise (as opposed to scientific circles) is that people *are* now discussing Global Warming as a reality instead of as a theory.

Al Gore's new movie, 'An Inconvenient Truth' premiered at Sundance Film Festival to 3 standing ovations...

If you search "Gore" hear at DU you will also find articles about his speeches to business leaders about global warming.

Other issues related to GW: drowning polar bears, fast-melting polar ice caps, the global warming crack made by Steven Colbert at the White House dinner last weekend ("Jesse Jackson speaks as fast as a glacier moves. Enjoy that joke folks, your grandkids won't know what a glacier is...")

The news articles appear here often...

4. It's starting to get more traction
There is less denial though not yet enough of a sense of urgency. Of course Al Gore is still a leading voice and is being listened to more. I am active at Wes Clark's web site and he issue three podcasts about Global warming recently, plus a group of specialized bloggers on his site have launched a series of reports that really are good which are featured there, so the issue is entering the public debate more. Here is the direct link to the Global Warming blog series: http://securingamerica.com/ccn/node/5790

8. One of the elders at my church
Edited on Thu May-04-06 09:12 AM by B3Nut
Dr. Rich Lindroth < http://plantpath.wisc.edu/~lindroth/ > is a Ph.D. and prof in the Ecology department at UW Madison. Pastor had him up on the platform last Sunday speaking about the reality of global warming, stating that amongst scientists there is no debate, it is real and humans have contributed greatly to it. One of the topics was the need to care for creation, and Dr. Lindroth was brought up to speak about it. He did a good job laying out the significance of even seemingly small changes in average temperature. He said in a few years Wisconsin's climate will be like Arkansas's. :scared: Not the kind of thing you'd expect to hear in church, but refreshing to hear nonetheless.

The only people denying it nowadays are neocons and Dittoheads and that ilk, and fake "scientists" on the payroll of Big Oil.
