Poll question: On Feb. 20, 2009, a bitterly cold night, even as far south as Miami .....
..... newly installed US President 'Democrat' is approaching a podium set up in the East Room to address the nation. His speech has been characterized by those who have seen rough drafts as one of great moment. Deeply disappointed by across the board losses in the '06 midterms, and the recipient of a razor thin two tenths of one percent plurality in the '08 popular vote, President Democrat is about to address the nation for the first time since his innauguration.

We go now to the White House .......

Speech Intro A

My fellow Americans, good evening. I have asked for this time on every television and radio outlet in the country so I can share with you the situation in our country. I will also set forth the steps I deeply believe will start us again down the right path.

After hearing from not only my cabinet, but also from career government servants, our nation is in far more grave condition than any of us could even imagine. Our treasury is near bankruptcy, our military is stretched beyond the point at which any sane person can hope for effectiveness and yet they stand strong on our behalf only by their own patriotism and love for their country. Our State Department's career diplomats have only days ago discovered heretofore unknown official letters clandestinely dispatched to our diplomats less than one year ago outlining significant planning for the overthrow of our government by a foreign alliance.

My fellow Americans, the state of our nation is not good ........

Speech Intro B

My fellow Americans, I stand before you tonight as an American President with a will to make our country greater than it has ever been before. As I promised during the campaign, I intend to look into every facet of our government and root out corruption and greed. While newly discovered vast oil fields deep under the Gulf of Mexico promise to lift us to oil indepence within months, I will, tonight, set in motion a ten year plan to move to complete energy independence. The last of our troops will leave Iraq by the middle of the summer and be redeployed to the new bases the previous adminstration established in Turkey, Kuwait, and Sri Lanka ........

Which of these two works of fiction do you see as more likley?

Though, I do not agree that Democrats will have any net losses this Fall.
