4. Come on Pete, that's crazy.
If being taller makes you the most qualified, vote for me. I'm 6'6". Hell, I was chair of the local Young Democrats for 2 years, so I have more politcal experience than Clark and Sharpton combined.

Can I count on your vote, Pete? :)

He is the establishments candidate and may only bore people into staying home. Is he going to end NAFTA so jobs are not exported? I am not going to vote for Kerry.

9. His stentorian voice is a handicap...he does well despite it...
Really, this isn't a put down he does better when he is just plain talking to people. The more conversational tone that comes out in interviews and Q&A's allows a sense of closeness to the candidate, that booming voice of the orator just makes people feel like they are the audience...

10. stentorian voice ... echo ... stentorian voice ... echo ... stentorian
How many effin' times have I heard this said of Kerry? It is not a compliment!

stentorian: using a very loud voice
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/define.asp?key=77921&dict=CALD

People all over the press are using the word "stentorian" because for some reason they think it means his voice is impressive.

As for his imposing stature, Lurch also had his fans.

Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 05:59 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
You won't get a rational response from most. They like a guy that they claim will get more crossover votes from Republicans and independent voters even though he used the term Republican against Kerry as a pejorative the other day.

They like the guy who flings shit without clean hands.

18. I didn't mention anyone's supporters and I have a right to make my
own observations. There are very few earnest responses to Pete's post.

I underscored what WAS irrational about the viewpoint and I stand by my observations.

You should avoid telling me what to do.

Who did you mean by that pray tell? Kucinich? Clark? Dont bullshit me please.I respect you immensely, and I think you know that, but I'm not into this type of intellectual dishonesty.

40. NSMA....
That's exactly correct. The crossover vote is lost to one of the candidates. I did thread about "Republican" being used like a dirty word by a certain candidate and how last night saw one of his campaigners saying on the local news that Republicans should take a second look at him. I thought it was hilarious.

14. He's open to the lurch and herman munster jokes
I agree that you do have to consider everything, including looks. I think Clarks appearance would suit him even better than Clarks. Someone posted a funny link with all the cartoon comparisons with the candidates. Kerry was droopy dog, Clark was Race Bannon from Johnny Quest.

And since Americans really are in a mindset that we are in a struggle unlike we have in other elections, with Al Queada etc, they're going to be looking for, I believe, a savior, an action-hero, Clark has that action hero look. Certain men do have it. Classic features. Like for instance Lester Holt from MSNBC seems that way. Harrison Ford(maybe because he's just played them). I think Clark can EXCITE people a way Kerry can't. They will sympathize with Clarks army being abused and misused

15. I fear that he is the *current* favorite, during this compacted primary
cycle. It might be like a bubble, such as Dean had, then Edwards (during Iowa). But if this is so, Kerry is riding the bubble during the time when the nomination decision is being finalized. If the Dem establishment is not powerful enough to keep it going for him, it could burst.

What if, by June, when the decision is in concrete, Dems look up and say, "WHAT were we THINKING???". Just like in 1988...

Voting on intangibles like Bush's "likability" and _perceived_ honestly is what got him within cheating distance of the Oval Office.

24. This personality cult around Kerry is getting worrisome
All I see are threads that worship Kerry as the ultimate savior. Please, please, the man has MANY, MANY defects physical, character and political. Are you deceiving yourselves by seeing what you want to see and not what he is? You are setting yourselfs up for disappointment.....Let's make an effort to remain objective. This personality cult is getting out of hand.

26. Stature is so subjective that it is not even worthy of discussion.
A significant portion of our electorate feels George Bush has stature. Do we really want to elect our president on the subjective determinations of a group of people that made people like Toby Keith and Brittney Spears millionaires?

I'll go with something more objective than "stature," however it may be defined. Things like the foresight to say "No Child Left Behind" is a bad bill or the courage to say, there is no evidence of WMDs in Iraq BEFORE the war; those are the things that will determine who gets my vote.

Like they say in basketball, you can't teach height. If you have positives working in your favor that are nothing but gifts from god (height, voice, intellect) then you're a leg up on the competition.

In the Senate, he's always been considered something of a lightweight.

Any stature Kerry has is based on things he did nearly 40 years ago.

35. Someone told me a long time ago that the tallest candidate would win
I wasn't so sure about Kerry doing well then. Currently that prediction seems accurate. Does any have the ranking of their height? Kerry looks like the jolly green giant (although he's not green)with a bunch of midgets but who is second, third, fourth and fifth tallest? Kucinich (whom I'm voting for) and Dean are the shortest.

37. Yes...Tall Folks have great "Q" factor with advertisers who want to
promote "Stength." Unless one is trying to promote issues that affect "small folks." In that case....Ad Agencies try to go for the "common folk average height" person.
