4. Does seem suspicious.
But, he was fired (he did not quit), correct? Hopefully, this fact would have an impact on his chances of winning?

I know...this is yet another fairytale wish.

6. I like that suggestion.
I dealt with most of them (cept for Goss) recently. Only Jeb responded to a request from my agency. The rest didn't even alknowledge with a "NO". Bastards.

8. Crist gives me the creeps. I don't like Gallagher politically either, but
he at least appears to be halfway human.

Crist is one of the alien plants they talk about in the tabloids in the checkout counter at Publix. I just know he is.

And there's some real hungry crocodile in SE part of the Everglades who would really appreciate having a Republican for dinner.

and this IS Florida, after all.

10. That would mean he's not involved in the poker-prostitute group. I think
that if he's involved in something to do with Florida, why couldn't it be the Abramoff - casino-cruise death that is still hanging out there with some links that people are questioning. Just a suggestion. He was in the House - did he ever run for Senator?

19. I agree with you, Dudley. Jeb & Co. are pushing for Bense.
Bense has said he's waiting for this session of the Legislature to end... (which it did yesterday, unless Jeb insists on a special session to force more votes for his failed vouchers/class size amendments)....before Bense *makes up his mind* about running against Harris. Up until very recently, Bense has not been interested in running for Senate.

I bet it's pure hell being under Jeb's thumb, huh, Speaker Bense? Another expendable, dessicated body, to be thrown to the side after serving a purpose for the BFEE. These guys never learn.

22. I think someone should befriend Katherine Harris ...
And if the Republicans truly screw her over, it's only appropriate that she tell us *all that happened* during the 2000 Elections. They are treating that poor woman unfairly and we should let her know, we're here to listen if she would like to talk about it. :smoke:

20. I don't believe it.
If he were resigning to run for Senate, somebody would have made a big deal about it. They would have had him ride into Florida on a white horse. He wouldn't have slunk out on a Friday, bush wouldn't have given him such a lukewarm goodbye, and the republican party certainly woulnd't be telling reporters that Negroponte fired him.

If he really did get fired because he clashed with Negroponte and not because he's implicated in hookergate, he might run, just because what else is he going to do? But he won't get much more support than Harris and will still get beaten like a drum (possibly even in the primary).

21. Goss will be replacing Harris in Florida
This is my second post today on this same subject.

My friend Michael, who is previously a Republican but not a Bush supporter and lives in Florida
told me today that the plan is

Katherine Harris withdraws from the Senate race and runs for her House seat and

Porter Goss runs for the Senate against Nelson.

The Republican money men are being lined up as I write this.

26. he fits the GOP mold
Every day is 'Anything Can Happen Day' in Bu$hWorld.
They go on as if nothing is wrong.
So, nothing would surprise me.

His resignation being in the news, I decided to check out his last filed Personal Finance disclosure as congressman at opensecrets.org. Anytime the pdf file has @25 pages, imo = $$$LOADED$$$.

http://www.opensecrets.org/pfds/pfd2003/N00002960_2003.pdf
stock/investment listings (Assets and Unearned Income) start on page 4, and end on page page 12 ... the next 9 pages lists buys/sells of stocks ...

does he own corporate america or what?
or is that the other way around?

did he invest every penny he made in real estate and the newspaper biz? Where did his seed money come from? Was he honest in his business dealings?

I do wish the Democratic Party would become the anti-corporate-owned party ... but, portfolios on that side of the aisle along with all the corporate campaign funding doesn't help create the desired contrast.

Porter "we don't torture" Goss is on the Board of Governors of the swank National Republican Club of Capitol Hill aka the Capitol Hill Club (5-level "clubhouse" including a "stately Presidential Dining Room" offering "splendid cuisine prepared by our renowned chefs")

Florida is as Rethuglican-weary as the rest of the country. Goss would not be a shoo-in, not by a long shot so ya'll take heart.

30. Nelson might have to run an ad or something
I don't believe Goss will run. As another poster pointed out, the White House is still pushing Bense (who very well might run).

Nelson will beat all three of them, although he'll actually have to work (and be vigilant about fraud) against Bense. He'd win in a diebold proof walk against Goss and could spend the next six months vacationing in Europe and still beat Harris.
