I think I love Rep. Pete Stark! |
|
He's just finishing up on WashJ on C-Span now. What a hoot he is! Funny, straight talking, good human being, able to say bullshit in the most polite way. I can hardly wait until we take back Congress and he's the head of Ways and Means.

3. Pete Stark rocks! He was a hippie peacenick banker for the Rolling Stones! |
|
Edited on Tue May-09-06 09:25 AM by CottonBear
He said he displayed a big peace sign on the side of his bank, sold E (environmental) bonds and worked with the poor in his California community. He speaks truth to power in such a nice way! ;) He really handed that freeper caller his ass!
We need about 50 more congressmen and women just like Pete!

5. Not the band, the magazine. |
|
Rolling Stone got its start and was based in SF from 1967 until Wenner moved it to NYC some time in the mid-70s, IIRC.
Stark was great, wasn't he? I knew his name conjured up some good associations, but I'd forgotten the particulars.

7. I misunderstood him then. He threw out a lot of biographical info this AM |
|
and I didn't quite hear that Rolling Stone part correctly as I was feeding cats and making coffee at the time.
I know about Wenner, SF and Rolling Stone Magazine.
Remember when Doonesbury featured Wenner as a character? That was many moons ago! :)

8. You bet I remember! The best one, IMO, was |
|
one particularly devastating panel Trudeau did when Wenner made the big move to the Big Apple to hang with Jackie O et al. Trudeau gave the little twerp no quarter whatsoever, painting him as a groupie and a parvenu.

9. CottonBear loves Doonesbury and Gary Trudeau! |
|
I became politically aware at an early age because I read Doonesbury faithfully and watched the nightly news and Sunday network news shows (all three of them!) with my (John Birch Society member) dad!
My local paper runs the strip on the editorial page because they are afraid of offending the children or Republican bastards by running it on the cartoon page. Idiots still write tot eh papaer and complain simply because it is pulbished. What facist bastards they are.
My hometown paper used to refuse to run the color Sunday strip in the Sunday comics. They ran it on Saturdays.

4. Pete Stark is one of the few Democrats who makes me smile.. |
|
this guy still cares about universal healthcare, fighting these sickos now in power, and listening to his constituents.
He is a rare breed, and one who still knows what love is all about! :hippie:
