McCain to raise funds for Emery campaign (ME Gov candidate)

AUGUSTA, Maine — Sen. John McCain will attend a fundraising event in South Portland later this month for David Emery´s gubernatorial campaign, the only one among the three Republican candidates that is not publicly financed.

Emery called the Arizona senator´s planned visit May 21 "a tremendous boost" to his campaign, which reported much smaller cash reserves than GOP primary rivals Peter Mills and Chandler Woodcock in the most recent campaign finance filing period that ended April 25.

"We´re on track," Emery said Tuesday. "Even without Sen. McCain´s event, we will have the money we need when we need it."

All the GOP candidates are trailing Baldacci, the incumbent Dem, in the latest Rassmussen poll.

John Edwards will be at a fundraiser for Baldacci this weekend.
