Raising the eyebrows of friend and foe alike, conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch has agreed to host a political fund-raiser for Hillary Clinton's senatorial reelection campaign. Senator Clinton is also regarded as the current front-runner among possible candidates to head the Democratic Party's presidential ticket in 2008. 2. He wants Hillary to be the candidate

So she will be defeated by whoever the Repug nominee is. It is so obvious. Why she is going along with this is beyond me. Clinton hubris, I suppose. She wants the money, but I doubt all that money will really help her all that much.

4. She brings out their base

Otherwise they risk 1) losing the moderates not completely bat-shit crazies 2) people crossing over to vote and/or 3) having to run with a nut that scares the indies. Also, the republicans would like to grab the meme of "change" since Clinton isn't a new name. So, essentially they need her more than the Democrats do. And of course, there's the war....they want a pre-neutered candidate.
