Conservative Christians Warn Republicans Against Inaction
By DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK
Published: May 15, 2006

WASHINGTON, May 13 — Some of President Bush's most influential conservative Christian allies are becoming openly critical of the White House and Republicans in Congress, warning that they will withhold their support in the midterm elections unless Congress does more to oppose same-sex marriage, obscenity and abortion.

"There is a growing feeling among conservatives that the only way to cure the problem is for Republicans to lose the Congressional elections this fall," said Richard Viguerie, a conservative direct-mail pioneer.

Mr. Viguerie also cited dissatisfaction with government spending, the war in Iraq and the immigration-policy debate, which Mr. Bush is scheduled to address in a televised speech on Monday night.

"I can't tell you how much anger there is at the Republican leadership," Mr. Viguerie said. "I have never seen anything like it" ..

1. And to think, these nutballs
actually don't think the loons in office are quite looney enough.

Ya think maybe this whole administration and Repug congress is a runaway train heading for a crudely drawn "tunnel" on the side of a mountain?

2. This is conservatives awakening to the fact that Bush doesn't back them.
All of the core issues they care about he could give a rat's arse about...For him its all bout total control, total power. There are no ideals with Bush beyond those.

3. Nor McCain
Falwell acted like an worshipped ass because he made an independent thinker kneel and worship him. These GOP are sickos. All of them.

4. Yeah, that would be McCain selling out his values too.
There was a time when I respected him for his authenticity, but I know what he believes, and what happened with Falwell was McCain willing to lie to win a few votes. The lot of em are bad, every last one!!!

5. Even the far right politicians knowthese folks are kooks
and avoid them like the plague. I honestly don't think the far religious right will ever be happy, since every dandidate they really want has an average of 80% of voters stacked against them.

That said, I've been telling these sort of folks for YEARS that they are being screwed over by "their" politicians. Want to make a right-wing nut's head explode? One question needs to be asked. My conclusion isthat htey aren't actually religious, unless knee-jerk opposition to anything to the left of Ollie North is a religion... Which I'm starting to believe it is.

7. It took them this long to realize they've been HAD.
They fell for it AGAIN. They thought those guys were so sincere--promising that with one more term they'd solve all of those troublesome moral issues. James Dobson publishes an open letter warning them to keep their promises! ha ha ha ha --I could have told them that the day after the 2004 election, it all went poof! out of the Bushies' heads.

8. It's called denial....the cornerstone of fundamental religion
Their problem is that the majority of the American people are waking up to the medieval society these nutjobs are trying to make us all live in.

I have yet to see a poll that says that a majority of Americans want to outlaw all abortion. Their only support there, really is on the fringe, about shit like late-term, partial birth, etc.

Their attacks on stem cell research is being seen for what it is, a radical attempt to distort and bar scientific research because of middle ages type religious bigotry and dark ages views of science.

Most Americans are pretty squishy on "Faith Based Initiatives." Most rational religious people realize that separation of Church and State protects them far more than it does the government. Many people who have been supportive of the real nuts are starting to realize that the whole concept of a "Christian America" would be a disaster for most religious people and their churches.

People are starting to realize just how hate filled these bigots are. Most have not maybe gotten over all of the hate sermons they have heard regarding Democrats enough to vote for them, but they are starting to grasp that their agenda just won't fly in the Modern Day. Until the past few years, increased voter turnout has always tended to help Democrats. Maybe this time, disillusioned Republicans staying away will help them.
