1. It would be several states

as Mexico is already divided into states. We could have to- it's called the Mexican War.

2. Plenty of oil.
Great vacation spots especially if they loosen drug laws.
While we're at it, let's give NJ or NY to Israel and solve the rest of the world's problems, too.

5. Si se puede. Seriously, although it's fashionable to bash the
Saudi Arabian royal family, one of their kings (Prince Fahd?) told FDR back during WWII that turning Palestine into a Jewish state was going to be a big mistake and that if a Jewish homeland was the goal, it would be far better to carve it out of a conquered Germany rather than displace indigenous peoples. Too bad FDR didn't survive his fourth term

3. Imagine
Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

4. Actually, that is a long term solution...
Only not statehood, just common union organization laws, wage and hour rules, environmental safeguards, elimination of tariffs, freer movement of capital and labor -- something that would pull the Mexican economy upwards. Won't happen in my lifetime. Americans, Republican and Democratic, are both too xenophobic. Blowhards like Lou Dobbs don't help.

9. They should declare war on us
Then we'd send in billions of dollars of aid and do major reconstruction and maybe get an economy going. Under some other administration at least.

Edited on Mon May-15-06 08:55 PM by kenny blankenship
and there's a small matter that Mexico is a sovereign nation. The Mexican elites who have an extremely sweet deal going for themselves there would not want for us to interfere, nor probably, would other classes and regional groups who aren't able to rig the state system to line their pockets like the elites, but nevertheless have deep emotional investment in their national identity.

19. Because they've got this "sovereign nation" thing going on.
You know, they've got their own constitution, their own president, their own congress, their own court system, their own military etc.

You may have forgotten that Mexico is a sovereign nation, but I don't think they have. :eyes:
