Bush sets timetable for troop withdrawal |
|
Edited on Tue May-16-06 12:24 AM by Alcibiades
Bush has proposed that the National Guard troops he will deploy to the southern border will only stay for one year.
What I’d like to know is why Bush wants to set a timetable for the deployment and withdrawal of National Guard troops on our own border, but refuses to set a timetable for withdrawal of our armed forces in Iraq? Don’t the same arguments against a timetable in Iraq also apply to our own borders? If insurgents would just “wait us out,” why wouldn’t illegal immigrants just wait a few months until the troops leave?
Bush offered the same old arguments against deportation, the number one argument being “we cannot do it, it’s impractical.” Presumably he doesn’t think we can find out where the 11 million illegal immigrants are. But wait, doesn’t he have access to the phone records of some 200 million people? All he needs to do is figure out who keeps placing all those calls to central and South America.
Oops, my bad. Bush only supports invading the privacy of citizens in the war on terra. The rights of illegal immigrants must be respected, especially if it helps corporations profit from cheap labor.
