Secret Powers: My LTTE published in Chicago Tribune

I wrote this to appeal to those who think of themselves as conservatives:

Steve Chapman’s column was right on the money. I would like to add that this National Security Agency data-mining operation, like any government program, is likely to expand over time. And, as history has shown us time and again, power wielded in secrecy will be abused. If every citizen’s phone call can be tracked under the guise of national security, the next step will be to track every purchase and every Web site we visit. Big Brother is sticking his big foot in the door of every American household, which is something that every conservative—indeed every freedom-loving American—should demand an end to before the next step is taken.
