The Slow Motion Squirrel Act ...... is it the Finale? |
|
If you have a driver's license, you've experienced it. You're driving along and a squirrel runs out in front of you. He sees (senses?) your car bearing down on him. Instead of just continuing to run in the same direction, to safety, he stops.
He darts right. Stops. Darts left. Stops. Depending on the speed of your car and the track of your tires relative to the directional choices made by the squirrel's pea-sized brain, he lives. Or not.
That pretty much describes Ceaser Disgustus these days. He was fine when he was 'gittin' 'er done' on his original agenda. We hated him. They loved him. Easy. Black and White. Yin and Yang. North and South. Only One Wedge Needed.
But now? He's for a fence. He's for guest workers. Its amnesty but its not. He courts the Hispanic vote then pisses on Hispanics. He cuts more taxes as his conservative base decries his wanton spending; his massive deficit. His silence is seen as tacit acceptance of 'English or Death' language laws while putting official White House information out en Espanol. He portrays his zig-zag leadership as steady while calling the country's disapproval of him, personally, the result of our being 'unsettled'.
Bush is acting very much like that squirrel. And the track of the national tires is not boding well for his survival; certainly not for his 'agenda'.
Impact is slated for November 7, 2006. Will the squirrel live or will he become a grease spot on the road?
The crows in the nearby tree sense an upcoming meal of road kill, so ......

There's vultures circling above that highway, too.
Never a good omen.

That's a great one!
May I add to your excellent analysis? As I understand it, squirrels just love squirrel meat - from road kill, for example.
They eat their own. And thus will it be with Caesar Disgustus!

I would think that all the stupid squirrels that get run over leave only the smarter squirrels and the smart ones produce smarter offspring and the dumb ones leave the gene pool.
But there's still plenty of stupid one in my neck of the woods.
I always try to avoid them without killing myself or innocent drivers coming from the other direction. Always seem to brake just in time for them to scurry away. Except maybe once or twice. I hate hitting them. It makes me sad.

10. Unfortunately for squirrels |
|
They evolved so that they don't see and register big hunks of metal moving at high speeds, which are incredibly recent on an evolutionary timeline. Their eyes are meant to look out for other, smaller predators. So when they do finally sense a car coming at them, their little squirrel brains aren't sure how to react, so they freeze. That's according to a college biology professor whose class I took.

he's jumping around desperately, trying to find a place where he won't get hit; and it's just keeping him from getting to safety
